My husband blacked out on 5/21 while riding his motorcycle. He has never blacked out before that day. He had to stay home for 4 days to recoop from the accident. He did not have any injuries. Thank God. So, he went back to work (offshore). Then, the next day had to be flown in due to his blood pressure being stroke level. Because he blacked out, our physician had him take the EEG and a CAT scan. The CAT came out perfect. The EEG showed some "slowing" per the doctor. So, we are now seeing a neurologist. My husband will now have to take the "24 hr EEG". Do any of you think he has suffered a seizure? The neurologist said it doesn't look like it because the EEG did not pin point epilepsy but that something is going on. I hope they do not diagose him with seizures when it may be stroke or something else. And the kicker is, my husband is only 30. Any advise, knowledge, etc. would be greatly appreciated. Thank you,

I am sorry to hear about this scary incident! There are many causes of blacking out, hard to tell if it is seizure from just a blacking out. Seems the very high BP is one thing to straigthen out immediately. Sometimes the EEG can be inconclusive and it takes another witnessed account to pinpoint what occured. Hope you get this figured out. Is he on BP medication now?

Kayakmom,
Yes. He is taking Atacand. He just went through the 24 hr EEG but we won't hear from the doctor until Wednesday. I hope this test is accurate. Have you taken it? Or know someone that has? What other tests can be done?
Thanks,Angel

If the EEG is normal, it is possible to have seizures that are non electrical. Cardiac tests could show if it is a syncope problem. MRI is often done, but many with Epilepsy will still have a normal MRI. If he has a second event they might want to put him on seizure medication to see how he does. Hope the test tells the doctor something. THe EEG can miss problems since it shows just a small amount of time, if the abnormality comes up occasionally. Hang in there and keep pushing doctors for answers...
