I've been on once a week allergy shots for three months. This is for my bad dust mite allergies as well as cat and ryegrass. I was recently retested by my allergist with the skin test and found out I was even more allergic with a larger weal size than before. He said this can happen initially and I will become less allergic over time.
Now I'm a little skeptical. I didn't know you could become more allergic. After the skin test, I developed a huge lump covering both the dust mite skin sites after 5-6 hours. A sort of delayed reaction? This never happened before. I do want to continue with the shots but this has me kind of confused.

Sounds normal...it usually takes at least 6 months before most people can see a difference. I was on twice a week shots in the beginning and it took that long so it may take even longer for you with just once per week...thought with just 3 allergies you might see results sooner.

Thanks Titchou,
I do have other allergies but my allergist didn't think they had a strong enough reaction to have shots for. Do you also have bad dust allergies? If so, what sorts of benefits did you experience? I don't get the sneezing, runny nose thing but instead swollen sinuses, fatigue, foggy-headedness and congestion.

Yes, dust mites are my 3rd worst allergy and cats are #2. I sleep with a long haired cat! The shots have always been beneficial to me. But they don't last forever on most people. You have to do them again down the road. I'm 60 and have done them 3 times (5 year regimens). I usually take a benedryl at bedtime and that really helps too...especially in the winter when the heat is on. I usually just get the stuffiness with most allergies but also sometimes get the sneezes and itchy eyes...
