Does anyone understand how oxycontin works? Here is what I need to know. Lets say someone has a 20mg oxycontin pill. Is it supposed to work like having 20mg at a steady level per hour over 4-8 hrs, or is it like 2-3mg per hour adding up to 20mg?
I ask because I was using 30mg oxycodone four times a day. Doc wanted steadier blood level so he started me on oxycontin 20mg 3 times a day, but I hardly notice any relief with them. I know the oxycodone hit more at once, then blood levels come down, but the pain relief works much better than oxycontin.
Thanks

A 20 mg OxyContin releases 10 mg of Oxycodone in the first hour and then another 10 mg in about 6 hours.

The 20 mg OxyContin pill contains a total of 20 mg of Oxycodone.

Alan
