Do you know why your insurance carrier won't cover the oxy ER? Are they outright refusing, or are they wanting proof that something else has been tried and failed first? Maybe they require a prior authorization? I would try to find out and work the system.
Being unable to take morphine and methadone makes it more difficult. Other ER meds include oxymorphone and I believe hydromorphone, but if insurance is balking at oxy ER, they may have trouble with these also.
Again, try to determine the reason for the insurance problem and see what hoops you need to go through to resolve it.

HI Skii,
I have been in this position with similar meds, and I can tell you that when the doctor calls and says he or she wants you on this medication and no other, for whatever reason, It was never turned down, nor have I heard of anyone else being denied in the same situation. But the time involved for the doctor to contact them, and for them to get back to you with an approval, can be time consuming and a pain in the rear, lol. Good luck to you and let us know how it goes.

Hi Ski Lady,The Duragesic patch is another alternative, LA oxymorpione is called OPANA and been around less than a year. There is a LA version of Dilaudid in Canada but it was pulled from US shelves last year. I didn't see what country your in. As fa as denying meds, Fabby is right, If there is a medical reason you can't take meth or morph, they have to give you some option, Where you actually alergic? Your idea of can't and their idea of can't take those meds may be very differwent. Allergies are an absolute reaon to try something else, iot liking the way a med makes you feel may take a little convincing as far as aproving meds that aren't on their formulary.
Good luck, Dave

The Dr. finally faxed a appeal in, so i'm waiting on that to see fi they will pay fro the meds or not. I went in and bought them friday, and they cost 236.13 dollars. The pharmacist said they were not likely going to pay for it if they do appeal it. Does anyone know how this works, or how long it takes.
