My daughter is having seizures again now that she is training for school soccer. She is on Tegretol XR 200 mg twice a day but is still having some seizures. They are not lasting as long as they used to and today she did not have the jerking with her seizure...just looked like she had passed out. It lasted about 4 minutes, "woke up" and was alert and okay. Any insight from anyone would be appreciated. The doctor still says she does not know why my daughter has seizures with exercise.

well I am not a doctor but i feel that I over exert myself, make myself really tired I am proned to having seizures. but they were not the full shakey seizures either. My husband and i were wondering if its because I am on seizure med that its going into complete seizures. I wonder if you can try an expierment- before a pratice, have her lie quietly in her room after school to rest up. hopefully that would do the trick. it really seems with seizures you have to be on top of your rest. good luck

First of all, Tegretol only lasts in your body for a day or so... plus it has a lot of side effects. Bottomline - it's not the most effective and long lasting epilepsy drug out there.
I'm not preaching, but from my experience, zonisamide lasts 63 hours on a single dose! You only need to take it once a day and if you take it before bedtime, any fatigue you might experience will be gone by the time you wake up. I am very active and zonisamide provides me with the coverage i need day in and day out.
Good luck!
