I posted the other day about a tender pain on the top of my head with an earache. Well I went to the Dr. and she told me I had a bad sinus infection. She checked me for other more serious things (by checking my pupils, eye movements, facial movements, etc.) but said it was definately a bad sinus infection. She said even though I do not have a stuffy nose I can still have a sinus infection. I was just wondering does this make sense to anyone that without a stuffy nose, or pain on my forehead and cheeks it is still an obvious sinus infection? please tell me you opinions.

One way to confirm a sinus infection can be via a CT scan of the head.. but to tell you the truth, I've been trying to get rid of a potential sinus infection myself that has the same mannerisms as yours. I feel "dry" for the most part, but every once in a while I would feel a little bit of drainage down my throat. I just started taking sudafed and Guaifenesin over the counter, it seems to have helped some and after the last few days of taking it, I'd say i do feel a bit better. I guess I'd do as prescribed for now by your doc. If you find that the antibiotics and the decongestants and Guafienesin don't work, it could very well be a viral one, in which antibiotics won't help it but the sudafed and Guafinesin could potentially still help with drainage. I thought it was also odd that I wasn't severely congested, but I don't know what else it could be... I haven't talked to my primary about it yet.
I do know that in very severe cases, other measures need to be taken and you could get referred to an ENT. an NSAID like ibuprofen could help with any inflammation going on as well, but that stuff can be rough on the stomach. I had been saying to my neurosurg that I had all these other symptoms going on with my chest and problems with vertigo, and he gave me a steroid - this was before I suspected I had any type of an infection again and I think inadvertently it help me because my symptoms died down but then they slowly came back after I had been weaned off of them. Thus now I am trying fighting off a sinus and possible middle ear infection.. fun fun. I have to see my primary again in a week suposidly so I'm still waiting this out a bit.. since I was already on an antibotic before for the "vertigo", so if anything I think mine is probably viral if I do indeed have one.
If you don't start feeling better or you feel you are getting worse after trying what your doc prescribed, be sure to call right away so you can get the help you need.

I thought i was having sinus headaches and it actually is Trigeminal Neuralgia...Do you have pain constant? if its constant and dull pressure with not much pain then yes it is sinus but if its electric shocking pain then it may be neuralgia...if i touch my face or nose the pain sets in. you would know if its TN because its awful horrendous pain.

I do have a variance of pain and pressure, but I'm not quite ready to think that it would be this yet. I have potentially a few things going on with me so hopefully things wil slowly get ruled out and the cause will be found, but I never heard of this before, thank you for telling me about it.
