Hi,
I have a ?. About 2 yrs ago I had a m/c at about 5 mnths. About 8 mnths later I got pg agian. My Ob ran some test on me to try and figure out why I m/c so late in the preg. with the one before. It came back that I had MTHFR Mutation Gene, Protien S Defiency and Protein C Defiency. I had to go to a blood spec. every week along with my reg. Ob everyweek while I was preg. I also had to be on shots of Lovenox and a baby aspirin everyday. After the preg. I got referred to a diff. blood spec. He reran the blood work on me. Of course I will always have the MTHFR Mutation Gene. They said I no longer had the Protien C def. and was borderline for the Protien S def. That I could take the baby aspirin everyday if I wanted but if I was comf. enough not taking it then that was fine as well.
When I was in my OB's the other day I was talking to her about birth control. She looked in my chart and said since I have Protien S def. then the only 2 options for bc for the rest of my life that I have is either the shot or IUD.
My ? is if I still have it enough for it to determine what b.c I can take then shouldn't I still be on meds for it.
Also with the MTHFR mutation gene shouldn't I be taking folic acid?
I have tried to google this but there isn't really alot of info out there for Protien S since it is so rare.
Thnks!

I also have the MTHFR mutation gene and protein c and s deficiency which was discovered after having a TON of probs during pregnancy and having to be on bed rest in hospital for 2 months before delievering my daughter 8 weeks early.
With the MTHFR mutation i have been told to take two prenatal vitamins a day (which have the high folic acid) for pretty much the rest of my life.
As far as the birth control issue, the bc pill has a huge risk of making you have blood clots and with the conditions that you and I both have, thatd be dangerous for us both. I have had my protein c and s def go borderline twice so i just take the baby aspirin every day for my own piece of mind.
Hope this helps.
