Does anyone use the progesterone vag suppositories these? I've been using them after my IUIs and I've seen most talk about shots. I'm finding the supps to be very messy as the melt, maybe I'm not putting them in high enough?

Hi Hopeful!
I used progesterone supps for my IUIs, too. I was switched to prog injections for my IVFs. Apparently, supps aren't enough progesterone for IVF cycles but are perfectly good for IUIs. The supps were REALLY messy. Even when I got them pretty high up, I could feel them sort of sliding down as they melted. I think that's completely normal. I wore pantyliners while I was on the supps. Good luck! :D

Hi Hopeful,
I had the same experience. I used them prior to my IUIs and they were very messy. Once I was put on meds for the IUI my progesterone seemed to be okay so I haven't used them since. I did talk to my RE (my gyno had put me on the suppositories) about it and he was going to prescribe a tablet suppository if I ended up needing them. It's inserted the same way but it looks like a big tablet and is not creamy so therefore not suppose to be as messy. You may want to ask your RE about it if you are uncomfortable with the ones you have now. good luck!

i was never on them! thank goodness they sound gross :) but i did read that they are messy so its def normal, but dont request the injection, im not a baby AT ALL when it comes to shot, and these are the worst thing in the world to me, its not the shot, or the fact that it takes time to go in because its so thick.. its the after effect, and i tried the warming, the massaging the spot, i do it all, and i still get huge lumps in my rear that bruise and hurt, and even after ivf is all done and over with, i may be crazy but the upper part of my rear where all shots were given, if someone is trying to be funny (hubby or my mom--shes weird, lol) and smack my butt i am brought to tears, i swear there is personal muscle damage there.. so i wish i could be a mess!!!! because butt slappin will never be the same for me anymore, hehe.. sorry if tmi, i just wanted to share take the mess as a blessing, bc when its not in there anymore its not in there!~ aimee

I too took the Crinone Gel (prog gel) and it was messy. Mine were individually packaged so I used a fresh applicator daily. Sometimes I think that they make them messy so your hubby doesn't want to even think about sex during the first three months. I know mine wouldn't touch me (that way anyhow) while I was on them. They ARE gross. But it helped support my pregnancy, and for that I am thankful.

This whole string is really starting to make me laugh now. Yes, its gross but I've never taken them before IUI. The RE has me start them the day after the IUI until the beta. Does that mean that my prog is good enough for me but not to support a preg? When you guys test positive, do you have to continue it? I'm practically sliding out of the bed now. BD'ing is definitely out of the question unless you catch me before 10pm. :)

I always started mine the day after IUI. If beta was neg, I would stop them. When I FINALLY got my BFP, I continued them until I was 22 weeks. My day 20 prog level was fine, it is routine for them to give all patients prog as a precaution. My betas were off kilter, and they thought I would miscarry which I guess is why they kept me on them so long and also had me taking a baby aspirin a day. I carried the baby until 30 weeks, but my preterm delivery had nothing to do with my prog level. I had BV (bacterial vaginosis) and they think that is why I went into preterm.

Hi Amy
That seems to be the way that my office works also, start the day after regardless. I stopped them last time the day that I had my BFN and then AF came back immediately. This is good to know. Thanks everyone

Hi - I just started using these. My pharmacist said to lay down for 1/2 an hour after insertion. And I take it twice a day - is that typical? She also said to be careful when I am intimate with my husband, as he will be exposed to the progesterone if we don't wait at least 4 hours after I take it. The messiness does not bother me, but this intense itching is keeping me up at night. Have others had this experience? Any suggestions?

CBB you cracked me up, you get the mess and the lumpy butt. I'm rolling.
JuliaB - I didn't have any "itching" you may want to get that checked out.
But I agree they ARE gross and messy, yuck! As soon as I could tell that I was going to get a BFN last time, I stopped taking them immediately. I'm not looking forward to them again. At night it wasn't so bad because I would just wear a liner and sleep. But in the morning that's the last thing you want to worry about - I found myself visiting the bathroom to clean up a bit. I think next time I'll try handi-wipes.

thank goodness my experiences are the same, I too, was wondering if I didn't put the supp high enough because after about 20 minutes I could feel them drip right out. The first nite I had to use them, I was trying as I may to get it high enough but I kept laughing and it would slide back out, then my DH tried to help and that was even worse. TMI but it was pretty funny. Since then I feel like I have mastered the technique but I wish they weren't so darn cold (not a feeling you want down there). My DH and I also discussed the BD while using the prog supp, definitely not feeling romantic with an ice cold tablet in my netherregions, ha. I think it is a ploy to keep our DH away for the first 3 months. AH, I am sure it will all be worth it in the end.
I also use it twice a day after IUI so at night it's no big deal because I wear a pantyliner and then go to bed but in the morning, I get up 30 minutes earlier to insert it then go back to bed. Which reminds me, even with a pantyliner, my underwear still gets a gooped up sometimes and despite laundering, still feels stiff there. Anyone have a remedy for that? I end up using my old ugly undies during that time but still.

Hello
Just wanted this thread revisited because I want to hear other people's experiences with supp.:jester:
It is really not something you can talk about to anyone except another IF sister.

Hi Hopeful,
I use the supp twice a day and the shot. I know what you mean about messy. You can't just wear a panty liner! I read that even though it leaks your body is still absorbing most of it. They really are not fun. Hang in there!

Hopeful x25, your previous post had me bursting in laughter, I needed that, thanks! Part of me thinks "I hope I'm pg because it would be really lame if I'm taking these supp for nothing, yuck!" But then the other part of me says, "oh, but if I am pg, I have to keep using them for 8 MORE wks, double yuck!" Of course it will be worth it, but seriously, that is the only thing I'm looking forward to if I do get a BFN this weekend - no more supp for now.
I too have busted out my old sad undies, which is pretty sad they are all un-elasticed & such.
