I am currently 9 weeks postoperative thoracic fusion. I am wondering when people started PT? I have been doing light PT since the 1st week through visiting PTs. I am currently going to a center for a little more rigorous PT. Just curious about people's activity levels AS WELL AS what their MD's are doing about their PT schedules?

I hope everyone is well. I have been absent from the boards for a few weeks. I have had a nervous stomach which results in feeling sick all the time. Happy New Year, Friends! :)

In 2004 after my Laminectomy / L4-L5 fusion with hardware I didn't start therapy until 5-6 months later ..Same as my revision surgery in 2005.
But for my scar tissue surgery this past July I started a couple weeks later.
I think it's up to the Dr. My Dr. didn't want any chance of things moving with me.
Have a great Holiday

Hey there,

I am almost 9 weks post op. I have not yet started any type of PT. In fact I am pretty much on bed rest and that's until I see my doc in about 3 weeks. Eve at that point I don't know that I will be starting any type of therapy because I am in just as much pain as I was before my surgery.
We will see. Hope I answered your question. Take care. Beachgirl. ;)

Babs...I started PT about 3 weeks out from Post-Op for a Lumbar fusion surgery. Not sure what protocol is for Thoracic but it is probably close to being the same. My doctor gave me the script for PT and then the PT set everything up. They were pretty aggressive with treatments and I saw them 3 times a week for I believe the first 4 weeks. They also gave me excercises at home to do in between. If it was too much, they just back my plan up a bit.
Hope that helps you out a bit. Have a great New Year. Marie

My 16 year old son with Down Syndrome had an over 90 degree thoracic curve corrected to 30 degrees on 10/17 with a spinal fusion. He went back to school on December 5th and has never complained about pain. Guess he is lucky. the most problem I have seen is he gets tired more easily, but this has gotten better recently. At his check-up on December 4th the doctor removed all restrictions except he cannot lift over 15 pounds. He said he will not need PT, although he still has some lordosis. We go back agin to the doctor on 1/17.
