Just wanted to update my thread from earlier this summer/fall. I am hoping to provide some positive thoughts and hopes to others since I did get such help from boards like this recently.
My dad received his first PSA test in May 2006. I posted the results on here earlier in the link but as a summary.
PSA 23
Negative DRE
Six weeks of antiobiotics
PSA 20
Biopsy in August with one of eleven positive for cancer.
Bone and cat scan clear
8% showing in one sample
Gleason 8
First attempt of surgery Da Vinci Late October.
Right before they started to cut....heart went into A Fib.
Surgery cancelled.
Battery of cardiology tests.
No issues found. Put on one heart lowering rate medicine. Cleared for surgery.
Second attempt at Surgery mid November with Da Vinci
Early reports were no lymph node involvement.
Father recovered very quickly from surgery.
Was dry the first day and night after catheter came out.
After six weeks was able to sleep without getting up to pee overnight.
Pathology report changed gleason for 4 + 4 to a 4+3 so it is now 7.
TC2....did show perinerual involvement. Surgeon removed that area. All other nerves, seminal vessles etc were spared.
Just today received six weeks PSA report.....PSA was undetectable.
As you can imagine we are all very happy. Of course will continue to monitor for the next five years very closely.
My father had a psa test five YEARS before he had a score of 23. At that time it was a 3.5 which he was told was normal. Fortunately he had a blood test in May for the cancer he had was small volume but very aggressive. Just another story that so far is turning out positive because of the PSA test. By the way my brother who is 34 had a baseline PSA this year so that they can keep a better eye on his prostate!
Thanks for all the support this year!
