I've been through a lot of eye make-ups and a lot of eye make up removers but I can never get rid of all the make-up. I think the best I've used is Neutrogena but even that's not over 80%.

My eyes are prone to styes so I need something that works very well. Any suggestions?

Msminnamouse,

Have you ever tried washing your face in the morning with face wash for sensitive skin and then apply lotion before applying makeup. Then, that night, when you go to wash your face just wipe the makeup away with a warm wet wash cloth. Don't forget to apply lotion after :). I do this everday, I have sensitive skin and I can't wash my face twice a day or it drys out and burns.

I hope this little tip helps :)

I got this tip from someone on this board (or maybe the Acne board) I use Cetaphil cleanser. It takes everything OFF even waterproof mascara! AND it's very gentle and doesn't hurt if you get it into your eyes. I used to try all the fancy expensive brands of make-up removers and I didn't like any of them! This stuff is easy to find, easy to buy and super gentle on all your skin! Try it, I think you'll be very surprised and pleased! :D Kym.

I don't really like Mary Kay's skin products, but the eye makeup remover works really well for me. I have a miniature bottle somebody gave me and it works excellent. It is oil free but it kind of feels like oil in a way, so it moisturizes and is gentle without clogging pores. It removes waterproof mascara well. The only other way I could be able to get it off before was to use moisturizer around my eyes and gently wipe it off.. but sometimes I would lose an eyelash or two that way. The Mary Kay one has not irritated my eyes at all either like some eye gels and creams I have used.

I have the one by Rimmel and it doesn't work for me.. it only gets PART of the makeup off.

Have you considered doing permanent eyeliner and brow and lash tinting? You could avoid ever puting on eyeliner, mascara and brow powder or pencil. BTW, you can do permanent brows, as well, if you do the individual hair type it looks 100% natural and you can't tell your hairs from the permanent ones. You wouldn't need to use a makeup remover so close to your eyes and you might cut down on the amount of styes you get. Plus, you would save loads of time, in the morning with just applying base, eye shadow, blush and gloss.

I always use Almay and it works great. It does contain mineral oil, though, so I don't know whether or not that is suitable for your eyes. It moisturizes the skin around the eyes and it doesn't clog pores though. I like it a lot.
They have a bunch of oil-free ones as well.

The permanent make up is a little scary to me. You can't change the colors and what if you just want that natural look?

It is very easy to get a natural look, if you find a good artist. I would highly recommend only a natural look.

If you don't mind oily then mineral oil or olive oil works great. Merle Norman makes one that is great too if you have a MN near you. I've also used Mary Kay's and it works great but as far as I'm concerned the Neutrogena is the same. I read the book by the Cosmetic Cop and according to her the active ingredient in these are silicone. And the oily ones are usually mineral oil based.

This definitely works for me and is super cheap. Mix baby shampoo (any brand that is made not to sting baby's eyes,) 1 part baby shampoo and 11 parts water in a plastic bottle or whatever container you prefer. Use cotton wool (cotton balls) saturated with the mixture and you will get all of your eye makeup off, without the sting. I used to use Loreal eye make-up remover (in the blue bottle, non-oily) but it was really becoming expensive because I used so much of it; I would go through a bottle in a month.

I've been using my own homemade version and this stuff lasts and lasts. I did get this tip from another poster off of this web-site and have been absolutely satisfied. I hope this works for you if you decide to try it.

You won't have any greasy or oily after-feel and your eyes will feel clean and refreshed. Since it removes all eye make-up including stubborn mascara without the sting, you won't mind using it. I also do not end up losing eye lashes. Another bonus, it has a very pleasant scent. Good-luck!

Vaseline. Period. Be all end all for me! I "accidentally" noticed on the jar one day when I was using it for my babies dry lips, that it mentions make-up removal. I thought 0 you have to be kidding.....

So i tried it - yes of course it is mineral oil based. But I just used it for my eye make-up only, mascara and eyeliner seem to be the hardest to remove. Small swipe - you don't need much! - over closed eyes and wipe with a tissue and you're done! My first use I saw more mascara on that tissue than any I had ever cleaned off before!

I love it.

I made this the other day and it worked OK but didn't remove all the waterproof mascara so I searched for homemade eye make-up remover recipes and found this recipe too but I also saw that you can add a few drops of mineral oil so I did and it's great. It took off the makeup as well as the Mary Kay eye makeup remover. It did not cause my extremely sensitive eyes to burn at all...not in the least bit which is a rarity for me!:)

But I really need something not greasy b/c I get styes and I have sensitive eyes and skin.

I tried the Cetaphyl but it didn't get it all off. Too bad rubbing alcohol isn't safe!

I guess if the problems with your eyes is that bad and you can't use anything even remotely greasy, than instead of wearing water-proof makeup, you should just wear regular makeup that you can wash off with soap and water. I guess that's probably the easiest solution.
You can also always try oil-free makeup removers (Almay makes a bunch of different ones). I've never tried them though so I don't know how well they work.
(I've tried the one with mineral oil in it and that worked great.)

Missminnamouse...why not give the baby shampoo solution a try, it gets most of my waterproof makeup off without adding any oil. I've found that ever the "non-oily" ones still feel kind of oily to me, they are silicone based. My favorite store bought eye make-up remover is the Mary Kay "non-oily" eye make-up remover but I cannot say if it will cause you styes or not but my eyes are extremely sensitive to everything but I don't get styes...they will burn really bad.

Pond's Deep Cleanser and Make-up Remover.
Or just plain olive oil . They both work great and not costly

I agree Rava with the Dove, I have used it for years. It is a bit oily, but if you use a damp warm soft washcloth it comes off easily.

I use lotion on a cotton ball. Whatever I have at hand. Right now I am using Eucerin.

oh ladies, eyes are all sensitive issues so you've gotta avoid any chemical drying irritant & use something gentle (preferrably natural home-made recipe). I use the olive oil to remove my eye make-up, wash with water, wipe it dry with tissue, & finally wipe it with a cotton dipped in flower's water (as a toner), so I end up with clean, fresh looking eyes.
By the way, flower's water is really safe even inside the eyes which gives you a bright look.

After reading all the recommendations for the baby shampoo and water, I'm giving it a try! I recently purchase Estee Lauder's eye makeup remover and I burns my eyes alot! I have tried Mary Kay in the past, but if I can save $$ and have a product that works that's for me!

I wash with Cetaphil which removes most of the mascara and liner. After washing I used a Q-tip with Almay's Oil Free Eye Makeup Remover to get any remaining eyeliner. I've been using it for probably (at least) the past 5 years. It was recommended by my optometrist. It will not burn my eyes. It also has conditioning properites. It can be used on a cotton pad as well, but I like to wash my face first and clean up the residual after.

I used DHC olive oil make up remover and it worked pretty good but I still had the problem of not getting all the liner that was between the lashes right below the lid. It didn't burn either, but I really prefer not using oils.

I mixed up the baby shampoo and water formula and used it for the first time last night. WONDERFUL!!!!! It worked like a dream. Thanks for the suggestion and I would recommend it to anyone who has problems with commercial eye makeup removers burning their eyes. I can't believe the $$ I'll save! :)

I personally use Ponds Cold creme. You put it on and wipe it off. It not only removes your make up but is a great moisturizer. I use very hard to remove make up. Like eye smudges, lots of black eyeliner and mascara, etc...this is the only poductthat has ever taken everything off in one try. also it is very mild and doesn't hurt your eyes or anything.
