I have just started a new longer lasting pain med, opana. I switched from vicodin 5mg. 3 x a day to opana 10mg 2 x a day. What is the difference in strength and addiction potential? Also, have had a headache since the switch but back pain is better. My condition is post operative back. Thanks for any feedback.

I have opana for my more severe pain and do get headaches when I take it. If I take two in order as prescribed-12hours, I get a really whopper of a headache! That is all I know though-it does help the pain when I take it with Ultram-tramadol.

Headache is one of the side effects of Opana. Can you take a little caffeine? I had some dental work done recently and was prescribed something similar and got a nasty headache. Because I get migraine headaches, I've tried all kinds of things to kill headache pain. For me, a little caffeine can do the trick. I keep a bottle of generic NoDoz, 200mg caffeine tablets. I break one in half and sometimes use it. If your condition allows you to have caffeine (no heart problems...) give it a try.:)
