I was just recently diagnosed with mild colitis that is contained in the rectum. I have been suffering with tailbone/rectal pain for over 6 months. It was misdiagnosed because I've had back problems for several years & just had a lumbar fusion a year ago. My problem is the gastro dr. doesn't think the colitis is the cause of my constant pain even though MRI's & CT's of my back all look normal. He wants to see me again in 6 weeks and maybe do a sigmoidoscopy. I was referred to pain management & had injections in my tailbone, sacrum, SI joint, etc. with no relief. I'm wondering if I should get a second opinion & maybe see a colo/rectal surgeon this time. I've been taking endocort for the last month which has helped my appetite & energy, but doesn't seem to help the pain. I've had the most relief from ibuprofen, but the gastro dr. said it may aggravate things. It's impossible to sit for any length of time & feels like I'm sitting on a fencepost. Any ideas?

Do a search on coccydynia and see if you can find some other solutions. I don't think it is at all related to the colitis.

Most likely you have hemmorhoids internally that have progressed to the point that they give you chronic pain. And most likely these hemmorhoids were caused by the distress your colitis has put on your rectum whether it be from violent bowel movements or inflammation. I know through experience. That's what it sounds like to me. I've had a hemmorhoidectomy and am going into have ileoanal surgery to cure my colitis next week. Ask your doc if this might not be the case for you. :) Good luck.

Clamydia can cause colitis in the rectum. If a STD is a possability It might be worth having it looked into.
