View Full Version : Arythmical "drumbeat" in my ears

Does anyone experience spasms in their ears? Is anyone aware of any treatments?

For almost two decades, I have experienced what feels like a spasm in my ears. Both ears are involved, but usually only one ear spasms at any one time. However, I have had a few incidents of both ears spasming. This spasm usually ocurrs when I lie down and stops when I sit up or when I turn the involved ear downward towards the pillow. It also usually stops when I hear modest or loud sounds, but sometimes it won't stop no matter how loud the environmental noise is. If I stick my finger in my ear, the spasm stops. When I take my finger out, there are five to ten seconds without the spasm. Then I get a single beat, then a couple of beats, then more beats, and then the spasm quickly builds to full strength and speed. The spasm is very arythmical, that is, it is non-periodic and very irregular. I can both feel and hear the spams, though the sound is not very loud. The feeling is very annoying. Usually the spasms stop when I go to sleep, but lately I have been waking-up with the spasms. Also, incidents are becoming more frequent. I also have a significant ringing in both ears which is worse when I am in silence, however I had almost no ringing in my ears when the spasms started almost two decades ago.
