I have had a very hard time the past month with allergies. All of a sudden I got chest wall pain, hard time breathing, constant sinus pressure, fatigue. Just a few days ago my ears started to get very blocked which is making me dizzy. The doctor gave me Singular a few days ago and yesterday was the third day taking it. After my dose last night I seem to be worse then when I started. I'm having a hard time today even standing up because im so dizzy and I'm having a very hard time breathing. I'm going to hopefully get back into the doctors tomorrow but this is all so scary. It's been rough being this sick and having no relief. Was just wondering if anyone out there has felt this way and got some relief. I hate being a slave to my bed and not being able to do anything! I was thinking about asking for Zyrtec. I have indoor allergies so I dont know if its the time of year thats making it so bad but I want to be back to normal again!

Zyrtec, for me, would be a better choice than the Singulair. Singulair can take several weeks to kick in whereas the Zyrtec should only take a day or two.
I actually take both. singulair since i have asthma that is allergy related and zyrtec for multiple allergies. the zyrtec should work immediately . since i never had any side effects to the singulair i can't comment.

I'm waiting for the doctors office to open to see what meds she will give me. I wish that the Singular did work because I have ashtma that is allergy related. I'm hoping that i'll take the zyrtec and wont have as many problems with my breathing. Cant wait for the winter to be over!

I assume you are on a daily asthma med besides the Singulair...if not, then that might be what you need to add and not the Zyretc...though I took the Singulair in addition to my Zyrtec and daily inhaler for 2 months and never saw any change...

I'm totally off of the Singular because of the side effects. It was making me feel worse then I did to begin with. I'm on nothing now and i'm going to get something else from the doc today. I do have a albuterol inhaler but i have to use it only when needed because I have a fast heartbeat to begin with. That usually doesnt happen anyways. My problem isn't breathing really..its more of chest wall pain. We'll see what she gives me.

Megn, are you doing everything that you can to control the dust mites in your home like dust mite covers on your mattress and pillow, etc. If your asthma is caused by your allergies I would think that Zyrtec would be the first line of defense (after controlling the mites that is!)

I just talked to the doctor and she wanted me to try Singular again and if its not working or i'm feeling terrible by Friday to give her a call. She said sometimes it takes a while to kick in..or I could have been feeling bad from something else other then the medicine. My breathing got bad this morning so I had to use my inhaler. So i'll go back to Singular..and on my appointment next Friday ask her about adding something else. I'm hoping it works this time..to make me feel at least a little bit better. Allergies suck..as i'm sure all of you know.

Dizziness and blocked ears can be signs of a sinus infection. And there is research showing sinus infections can exaserbate asthma. I would ask for a full sinus work-up including CT.
Also I agree that if you have allergies, you need an antihistamine like Zyrtec in addition to the Singulair.

Well good news..well maybe not good news. The doc says I have a viral infection..because i've been so sick for almost 5 weeks. So I wont need the singular but im hoping this goes away soon! I want to be back to normal!
