My wife and I think we have genital herpes, but the tests haven't come back yet. We both experienced the outbreak, her 1st, then me a couple days later. I have 7 or 8 lesions on the shaft of my penis, and painful urination. It is painful and uncomfortable, but no HUGE deal. My wife on the other hand is having a terrible time. She tells me this is the most painful thing she has ever been through. After having 2 babies vaginally, and 1 c-section, I find that amazing. She is really having terrible pain, and all the Dr. prescribed was motrin., until the tests come back. Oh, and she did giver her some 5% lidocaine cream wich kills the pain for a couple of hours at best. I am doing everything I can to ease her suffering, but its not much. She is about 1 week into this, will tea-tree oil help at this stage? Any help would be appreciated.

Hi there,
well it does suck, but the fact is that what you have is prolly herpes, i have been positive for four years now, and on my first out break i was told to use one cap full of DETTOL in a WARM bath. It does ease the pain, but keep the area dry and free of moisture for that is what the herpes grow off of. Use a Hair dryer. I personally say DONT use any ointment of anysorts, only the ones the docter may recomend that is for herpes 2 and only herpes, for any other ointment will most likely cause irriatation and more pain. Also use somthing cold, IE: a frozen pack of veggies wrapped in a towel on the area, for this will help the pain for a awhile, and wont irriated the leisons. You just have to relax and take it easy, in order for the herpes to go back into "hiding". Also since you are getting "tested" if you only got a swab done that might not tell the whole story, the best way to know if you have herpes, (genital, HSV2) is to do a blood test. I hope i can be of some assistantce since i know what your going through.
P.S the first outbreak is usually the worst, hopefully things will look up from there

Thanks for the reply. We have had the swab & the blood test, but the long (agonizing) weekend has delayed getting teh results. I have read that we need to keep the area dry and all, but my wife's pain has been so bad, she was willing to jepordize the healing to numb it. I know this is a vicious cycle, but I've got to find her some thing to ease her pain.

I understand she's in alot of pain, and your welcome for the post. :)
U can use a frozen pack of something (veggies) wrapped in a towel to "numb" the pain as i stated in my previous post. There are antiviral creams to use, but you docter has to prescribe those to you, and even those arent' the greatest thing to use because they can hold in the moisture, but for a first noticed Ob, it will help ease the pain.
Good luck,

Hi Torp,
im courious to know what the dr. states. But if you guys do have herpes that thats what it sounds like, then first Welcome to the club. Yea i know its really a club that no one wants to be in but hey..you have to face the fact. And you can get tons of support here that will be very helpful. My frist outbreak was the WORST and since my first outbreak i have never had an outbreak like that before.
I know your wife is going thru some pain but try stick there with her because it will not last. I have never used any meds like Valtrax or anything and mine seem to clear up on its own after about 2-3 weeks or so. But of course if you are put on meds, use them myfriend. Also try not to stress about it even though its easier said then done but I also read somewhere that stress can wake up the virus.
Also I highly recommend that you get as much info about this virus as possible. The more you know about it....the more you can keep in under control.

Well, we got the confirmation today. My wife and I are part of the 5%. We have HSV-1, in the genital area. Our lesions seem to be healing up pretty well. My wife is still in considerable pain, but even that is declining. This diagnosis in not a big suprise, as I had been diagnosed with shingles 6 or 7 years ago. It is just amazing to me that this virus is so widespread, so contagious, and yet so little about is known to the general public. We are reaping the rewards of registering here already, gleaning a lot of insight from your posts. Thank you all!
