Question for the ladies... My very first HSV-1 genital OB was pretty bad because I had it for 2 weeks w/out knowing what it was, so it went untreated. I got my period a week later and because it had been so bad and wasnt quite clear yet, my DR told me not to use tampons.

Now anytime I get anything down there its just a red bump, not a sore/blister, and they appear on my thigh or buttocks. Is it safe to use tampons now? Ive been using pads for the last 3 months b/c I was too afraid to use them, but I am hoping to go back to tampons. Has anyone ever dealt with this question?

Any advice regarding this?

I have HSV 1 as well. My first outbreak lasted forever and was pretty bad. Now I also get red bumps now and then on my pubic area and butt cheek area. I use tampons and dont have any problems. I think it should be fine to use them, as long as the tampon doesnt touch any type of open sore before you put it in. Hope this helps!

i prefer to use tampons especially when I have an ob during a period. herpes sores like to be kept dry to heal so the best way to do that during a period is with tampons. but it is especially important to make sure the tampon does not touch the sores before being inserted. the best way to do this is by getting the ones with aplicators and make sure you definetly wash your hands before and after inserting.

you should be fine from what you say about your outbreaks.
