Tripp is still having those head turn seizures almost daily. They do not interfer with how he feels..he just has them for less than 10 seconds and goes on about what he is doing before they started. No meds so far have controlled them.
Neuro says that as long as they do not hurt him or bouther him she is not worried about them. She just wants to control the grandmal ones as those are the ones that 'hurt the brain". He has gone for two months without any grandmals then last night he had one. It has been a busy weekend with my grandkids here. ...so could have been from stress.
He is still 400mg of tegretol xr three times a day....depokate 500mg twice a day....she is slowly taking his off keppra which she started this on Dec 15. I notice after about a week his head turns returned daily sometimes as many as 6 a day....I think we should just stay on the keppra at 500mg twice a day..or even more....she wants him to be on two meds only....I have placed a call to her hoping to find out what to do....I know several of you take more than 2 kinds of seizure meds...why? Do they control better?

I just wanted to tell you that I'm taking 4 different AEDs and I don't think I'm getting better control than with Dilantin alone but everyone is different. I had 1 neuro that said he would never prescribe more than 2 AEDs for anyone. They can cause kidney or liver damage over a long period or other long term side effects. I onlty took Tegretol and Depokote for a short time many years ago and don't know the long term side effects. Ask your pharmacist and his neuro about these concerns. I think those are the best people to get some answers from. Good luck and Tripp and your loved ones will be in my prayers. Jeff

Thanks Jerry. She just says she does not like him being on more than two.
She called yesterday and upped the depokate to a 250mg pill in the afternoon when he takes his Tegretol. We have tried so many combos of pills. She told me to give his night meds just before bedtime.
Thanks again for replying!!!
Hope the new year is good for you!!!

I take three, TegXR Kep and Topa. That ended up being the mix that worked. Two drugs no longer worked, so we added a third to try and combat the seizures.

Well, being more historical, I had been brought down to Monotherapy years ago (Teg only) when problems began. So Dilantin was added, then dropped, Depa added, then Dilantin came back, (so ON 3 now) then I think it was Lamical in place of Depa, and so on for the trial and error. It seemed continual for changes every 3-6 months until we found a combo that worked; and even then we needed slight adjustments due to levels and how I felt.

In some cases 3 or 4 drugs are needed to control symptoms.

I'm on Tegretol, Klonopin, and Neurontin, along with as needed Ativan when I feel the auras.....I've had better control with this (5-7/month instead of 3-4 a week). Everyone is so different. I also take other meds for another disorder, so not sure how those effect the AEDs.
