Hi Shawn 2426! When I had my severe attack, May 2005, I was out of work for 4 months. I then worked my way back into full time. I quickly learned that there is more to life than work and there is little need to stress over the company because it will be here long after me. The only med I take is Betaseron, nothing else. I was on steroids until September of 2005 but worked my way off that when I returned to work.
You will find in various articles that it is better for us to work if possible. I know it can be frustrating, but you should have this discussion with your dr. maybe him/her can put you on something different to help at work.
Good luck and stay positive!
Holly

I was DX'd in 1997, I was a full time student with a part time job, I had to quit both in order to recover from my first flare-up. However, since then, I have worked full time, sometimes a part time job as well. It all depends. I do not take any MS medications.

No, I don't take anything. It was a personal decision not to, I also have type I (juvenile diabetes) and did not really like to results in research (and lack thereof) of these medications' effect on diabetes.

Shawn, thought I would throw in my 2 cents...I used to work fulltime and found that I couldnt keep up once I was formally diagnosed...(august of 2006). I had known it was coming, and at the point that I was diagnosed, I was in full relapse mode...at that point even the doctor told me to stop working. SO, since then, Ive gone on Rebif, hate it..and I mean hate it..the side effects make me sicker than anything- 3 days a week, im "hung over" from my Rebif, and I have had 2 relapses since....the doctor thinks it wasnt in my system long enough to prevent them..but I dont know, if I had a choice, and I really dont, I would go off of it, its not worth it!!
Anyway, my reason for posting- starting the 16th of this month, im going back to work, only parttime..but its 3 days a week, 9 hours a day...to me, thats alot of work! Especially since Ive been sleeping till 9 am, and napping again at 2 pm..my husband leaves for work at 5, I get up with him, go back to bed, get up and try to get thru housework, etc...and then nap before he gets home at 4 so that I can make dinner and pretend I feel fine...lol... I feel anything but fine..
But, im going back to work..i have to, im house happy and we need the money..
so, I feel for you and say a prayer I dont put myself back in the hosptial, huh?
thanks..

Hey shawn-- I only work part-time and have for the past 6years even before I was dx. Working full time with children at home is tough under any conditions but I can't imagine having to work 40 hrs with a disease such as MS. Would it be possible to cut back on your hours? From what I hear it can be very frustrating trying to get disablity but maybe you can look into that.
I'm very thankful that I only have to work part time. I will probably never start to work full-time because our insurance where I work isn't as good as my husbands insurance and I don't want to have to change.
See ya!!

Hey Bama Girl, Me And My Husband Need The Money So I Have To Work As Long As I Possibly Can. With The Job I Have I Sit Most Of The Day Anyway. Sometimes I Think If I Didnt Have To Drag Myself Here That I Would Probably Concentrate More On What Is Hurting And Feel Sorry For Myself More If Thats Possible. Shawn

Shawn-- You are probably right about keeping busy and keeping your mind off of yourself and how you feel. It's amazing how much better I feel when I am out shopping!! lol I don't pay attention how bad I feel when I'm spending money. Do you take any meds other than CRABS. (I assume you are taking them) Have you tried Provigil? It helps me to stay awake in the afternoon and gives me energy. I only take it on occasion though. I don't want to take on on a daily basis. Maybe you should check with your dr.

I agree that the routine of works helps me stay motivated. It helps stave off depression.
