View Full Version : 2nd colposcopy? pregnancy?

I am scheduled to have my second colposcopy the second week of Jan since my Nov. pap results came back with "some changes" and according to the nurse, "things have gotten worse." (I had mild displaysia last Dec. of 05 after I had my first colposcopy, a pap in June 06 showed no changes.) So of course, I'm thinking the absolute worse.

I recently got married and although I wanted to wait at least a year from now before having a baby, I can't help but think it's something I need to do sooner because "things have gotten worse."

For some reason, I'm already in the mindset that I will need a LEEP procedure after my second colposcopy next week. I just feel that it's coming to that. I am usually not a pessimistic person but I feel that I would rather accept it now and be prepared for it. I have been researching and reading a ton of information lately, some of which are reassuring but others can be really scary. Sometimes it's hard to be optimistic...I'm trying!

I recently read that a dr. should be able to tell you which type of HPV you have after the colposcopy or maybe it was the LEEP; one of these procedures. I am hoping to get this information since there are some that are worse than others. I feel like it's something I really need to know so I know what to expect in the future! Anyone have more insight on this...

Thanks!

I believe your gyn should be able to tell the strain of HPV after the colpo. You should ask him/her.

As far as having a LEEP and being able to have children, I wouldn't worry so much. Yes, there is more risk of not being able to carry the baby to term after, especially if you have more than one procedure. However, they do treat it as a higher risk pregnancy so they will keep a closer eye on everything. They may even sew the cervix (sorry don't know tech term) if they feel it won't hold.

This is all very treatable that's why getting paps annually and taking care of anything that needs to be is so important. I had the LEEP done 3 months ago. My gyn told me that if I go three years with all of my follow ups coming back "normal" then he thinks I should be able to go ahead and ttc with no problems. My husband and I decided since my last pregnancy (I had the CIN III while pregnant and had to wait for treatment) was so emotional that he would get a vasectomy and call it a day. However, I have 2 children and I am happy with that. If I didn't already have children then I would be working with my doctor to ensure a successful pregnancy in the future.

I hope I was able to help!

I'm new and I read your story. It sounds like me but, I had the leep already. It was painful and took over 2 hours for the procedure. They had problems with the computer. I had my first pap after Leep two weeks ago. It came back abnormal low grade. I'm waiting for my doc to tell me what to do next. I want to have a baby and I'm scared I may not have the chance. I wonder if I could have one now with this before I end up having a hysterectomy, or before it becomes worse. I'm going to see what my doc says. She told me I should wait a year after the Leep but, I want a baby more than anything.
I'm thinking about you. I want you to know I understand how you feel and wish you the best of luck. I'll be praying for you.
Let me know how you're doing.
Gloria
