I was recently told by my doctor I need to try IVF my question is I would like to know about anyone that has been through this and their experiences and what types of infertility they have that made them haft to go this route. The reason I want to know what types of infertility is because I wonder if certain conditions have better outcome or not. I have pelvic adhesions. uterus is normal .doctor said tubes are not blocked and are clear, but they have adhesions around them affecting them from functioning. Anything you guys can tell me would help. Baby dust to all!!!!!!!!

Hi Kim,

Welcome to the board. There are a lot of girls out on the board that have tried IVF and everyone is great @ responding. I am also considering IVF but I am not there just yet. I did get a 2nd opinion from another RE and maybe you can too. Since it is so costly I think it's good to get a new perspective. In addition, you can ask and compare each of the success rates with each office and the cost/share plan options. I wish I should be more helpfu, l I hope that whatever you do that it works for you and you get to be a mommy real soon :) Please keep us posted you will find a lot of great info and and a ton of support!!!!

We are trying our Ist IVF cycle this month. My dh has a low count as well as poor motility and morphology. We tried one IUI, but decided to go right to IVF b/c of dh's sperm quality.

If your not sure this is the route that you want to take, maybe getting a second opinion would be beneficial. Good luck in what ever you decide.

what exactly do you want to know, i have done 2 and about to do a frozen cycle.. its not to bad until the end (pio- progesterone in oil injections) and the 2ww!! and it is difficult every month to get a bfn, but a bfn after all that effort and money etc etc. with an ivf is really hard.. all protocols are different, but generally after all tests done, and a mock transfer when you start the cycle you start on bcp for about 2 1/2 weeks (sometimes re wont prescribe bcp, i didnt take them my first try), then lupron to supress ovaries then you get a period have and have u/s about 3 days later they stay on lupron but usually a lower dose, then you start stimming (for example- gonal f/repronex), about 10 days and an u/s about every other day, then when your ready--- egg retrielval (usually put under general anesthesia so you dont feel much, mild cramping after) then 3-5 days later egg transfer.. (not painful, i did have a bad experience my second ivf, but thats not common, they couldnt get around my curve), and bed rest for a day or 2.. then pio shots until beta day.. sometimes re will also prescribe estrogen (estrace or estradiol) hope this helps.. :)

 I also did 2 fresh cycles and a frozen cycle in between and got pg on my last try. I am now 25 weeks along with my first due in April. I did it b/c of my husband's count, (he had only about 2 million in each sample that was tested~even after some treatments of various things). As for me~I had irregular periods but had no reason to not be ovulating and Clomid alone should have helped me but that wouldn't of helped at all with my dh and his little swimmers. I never did IUI, I don't think his count was high enough to even try that.

The only thing I can add to what Asprousey said is the timing of things. It's about a month of prepping your body and then the ER (egg retrieval). It breaks down about 10-10-10. About 10 days on BCP, (to suppress your body and hormones) about 10 days on Lupron, (to prep your body and further suppress) and then about 10 days of stimming (to grow follicles and thicken your lining). I used follistim only my first cycle and follistim and menopur the 2nd time. Then you will trigger with an hcg shot and have your ER. Your ET (transfer) should be 3 or 5 days later and then the beta (pg test) is usually 11 days (if it was a 3 day transfer) or 9 days (if it was a 5 day transfer) so basically 2 weeks post ER. It's then, the progesterone comes in. You might have injections or suppositories. (I had injections and believe me, when you see the size of the needle, you'll probably flip out. But, it wasn't that bad.) It sounds like alot is involved and there is alot to do, but if you take it a day at a time and step by step, then it's not so bad. (I know that sounds trite  but it's true!)

When we were first told how it was all going to work, I was pretty overwhelmed, I literally walked out of the office shaking. And when the first bag of meds arrived at my door with all the needles inside, I felt faint. But, I got through it, twice, and it was well worth it in the end to get to where I am now.;)
Good luck and if you have any other specific questions, let me know. Even though I am over on the pregnancy boards now, I still visit here often!

Hi I had a successful Invitro and twin boys.My infertility problem is a lot different.I have primary amennoreah.I have never had a period on my own at all.Only when I take birth control. So my hormones do not provide stimulation to my ovaries to stimulate egg maturity.I have eggs, but they are just sitting in there on vacation. So I do not ovulate. So my Fertility doctor started me on 2 months of birth control them on my second period they perscribed a follicle stimulating hormone which matured around 12 eggs and they give you several different kinds of meds to stage a cycle.Once your eggs have reached their peak maturity then you have a trigger shot which allows your eggs to finish and it stimulates ovulation. Before the eggs release from your ovaries they will put you out under anistesia and retrieve all mature eggs with a tiny needle through the vaginal area and into the ovaries. On the same day they will collect the semen and wash them and they select the best and they will place each egg in a seperate dish and apply the semen they will monitor the eggs from 3 to 5 days. If you only have a few poor to good grade eggs that have fertilized normally and at a good rate they usually will transfer them on day three from joining semen and egg.And they would most likely transfer all of them.No more than 3.They feel that you would have a better chance with pregnancy. They would be afaid of the eggs taking a turn for the worst before making it to a blastocysts stage which is at day five and that is what they would wait for if you have atleast 6 or more good grade embryos.Mine where transferred on day 5 at the blastocyst stage.A blastocyst is the stage right before the egg hatches itself out of the shell to implant. When you go in to transfer the embryo or embryos they will just give you an oral sedative to take before the procedure. They will take a picture of the embryos and give it to you. Then they will place them in a cathedar and monitor them on a sonogram to see the cathedar on the screen and you can actually see them entering you uterian cavity little white dots on the screen. That evening you will start taking progesterone Oil shots and then two weeks following you will return for blood work to messure your Hcg levels. If your level are positive and at a good level you will continue to take the progesterone shots until 10 weeks of pregnancy.I hope this was helpful in your decisions.I myself could not put a price on motherhood.Whatever the cost.If you have embryos left they offer cyropreservation for further use.Good luck!!!!!

Thankyou so much for the details. I am so scared of the injections(not the pain but them being done right).I am also scared about my eggs wether they will fertilize or what could go wrong its scary ,but I am going to do this.I am so glad for this site thanks everyone.
