I'm new to this and in need of opinions-help. Been on meds for 18 years for partial-complex. Was on dilantin for 8 years and that turned seizures to nocturnal. Was great, did not have to worry about them during day. Started having day seizures increasingly in last 2 years. Put me on Neurontin (added on to dilantin) for about 6 months. Didn't help seiz. activity and hair started falling out like mad. Weaned me off of Neurontin. For three weeks I was back to dilantin alone. Hair stopped falling out and saw regrowth. Now on Keppra. 2 months after starting it, my hair is falling out again. A LOT! 6 months have gone by, Keppra not really helping seiz. Has anyone had this happen and what did you switch to that you had control of seiz., but no hair loss? Not looking forward to using something like rogaine. What else works for hair loss???? Thanks for your help!!

i have been on keppra for about a month and a half and i am suddenly noticing that my hair is getting thin all around the sides. I am twenty three years old and it makes me nervous. (In addition to all of the other terrible side effects.) I have also been on trileptal (since I was diagnosed in Oct. of 2002). That seems to have far less side effects.
What to do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?????????

Have any of you ever heard of Zonegran (zonisamide)? It's probably one of the more "cleaner" epilepsy drugs on the market... like hardly any side effects. I alsoo know that hairloss is not one of them. The best thing I like about it is that it keeps me covered for 63 hours on one dose! And you only have to take it once a day! Check it out and let me know your thoughts. I think it's one of the best out there today.

Good luck!

Hi,
When I was diagnosed with T.L.E,I was given tegretol,It not only made me feel ill but made my hair thin.I changed to lamictal, and my hair seemed at first to thicken up a little, then it started again, going thinner.Anyway I was diagnosed with hashimoto's thyroiditis, one of the side effects is thinning hair,I looked round the internet for sites about my new ailment...and found Mary Shomon at about.com.She takes evening primrose oil for her thinning hair,so I am trying it out and have been taking it for about 2 months,my hair seems to be getting a bit thicker (wishfull thinking?),but it definately, has made a difference to the texture,it's not as wirey.I'm not implying that you have hashi's it's just that maybe you should give evening primrose oil a go.

Hi,
What are some of the side effects of this medication?
I have taken everything there is & of course they all have their side effects.
Thanks for your response.

Hi I use nioxin products for your hair.
You can only buy the nioxin products at beauty salons.
I take tegretal 600mg and topamax 200mg. I take the medicine for seizures. If you take topamax you need to be taking vitamins like biotin for thinning hair, a multi vitamin, b complex, b12, and plenty of water. The miligrams that i go by is the following. I found it on a forum. http://forum.ditonline.com/index.php
Daily Multi Vitamin
Zinc 60 mg (never take more than 100 mg a day) 1 x day
Super B-Complex 1 x day
Biotin 1800 mcg 2 x day
Vitamin B-12 500 mcg 1 x day
selenium 200 mcg 1 x day
magnesium 500 mg 2 x day
potassium 188 mg 2 x day
folic acid 400 mcg 1 x day

I dunno, with Zonegran, I've been on a low dose for about a year, and I'm experiencing slight hair loss...and on the packet my nuerologist gave me slight hair loss is listed as one of the rare side effects...though rare...unfortunately for me I think I'm just one of those unique people who get the rare side effects...Tegretol gave me a really bad rash when I was on it too...but just thought to give a heads up!
