Luckily I don't know what it's like not to drive...I came close once upon a time.

Congrats again & I'm sure it feels great to be sz. free for that long.

Talk to you later,

Hey there,
CONGRATULATIONS! http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/wow.gif I know just what you mean about the whole independence thing....I HATE asking (actually I feel like I'm begging) to be taken for errands, appointments and shopping. I have a hard time swallowing my pride sometimes, which makes asking for help difficult. Plus, I hate to inconvenience anyone. What ends up happening is that I get into a store and draw a complete blank about what I need because all I can concentrate on is hurrying. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/dizzy.gif My poor hubby usually spends most of Saturday toting me around. He says he doesn't mind, but it MUST get old for him! Oh well, the closest I got to getting my license back was within two weeks. Next month it will be two years since I last drove. Sometimes it gets me real down. Sometimes it just makes me angry. Bottom line is....there's not anything I can do about it! Thanks for letting me vent. I did not intend to make this "about me!" I hope you remember how to drive! Again, CONGRATULATIONS!!!! Kathy

in my state the law is you have to be 6 months seizure free to drive however you are suppose to report it yourself to the dmv ive never done that i have abided by the law though because if i was to drive and had a seizure while driving it could all come back to royally kick my butt if i hit someone and if something worse were to happen i dont think i could live with myself. although i have been seizure free for almost 6 months and i will be able to drive legally once again im not going to drive with my kids in the car unless it is an absolute emergency and i wont be driving long distances for a while either im glad to be regaining my freedom once again (kinda) but im going to take things slow i want to be as safe as I possibly can

I've been reading more about the state laws and driving since moving to Illinois (no set time for being seizure free). I'm lucky, I have enough warning to pull over, and have never had to give up driving. But there is sooooo much out there that says that epileptics are much less likely to cause and accident or get hurt/killed as someone having a stroke or heart attack.... seems anyone with high cholesterol should have restrictions- lol- I mean fair is fair!!!

CONGRATULATIONS on getting back on the road!!

i was just thinking though and now im kinda wondering ok say like my state law (iowa) says you have to be 6 months seizure free to legally drive ok now say i drive to another state and although im legal to drive in iowa how will that effect me driving in another state? like nebraska. we are planning a trip there at the end of sept for racing nationals that are held there it would really help out if i could drive but i want to make sure i will be legal to drive in that state any ideas?

Hi Jessi
Sorry to say this, but I went six months seizure free
and then had two grand mals in a period of a week, and they were out of the blue. One of them happened with very little warning. I know that this is a downer response, but I really don't know if it's such a good idea to drive.
But if you decide to, good luck, I hope it works out.
Take Care,
c

Hi Momma J.

SO Glad to hear that you get to drive again. The state that issues driving privilges rules. It's along the same lines as your insurance. Different states require different limits of liability. If you have an accident in a state that's different then your own, it falls to the state of issue.

Hope that helps!

both Minnesota & Wisconsin require self-reporting and 6 months seizure-free, then your doctor has to fill out forms certifying that you are able to drive again.
