You always here people say that you shouldn't diagnose yourself, that looking up diseases on the internet is self defeating and leave that to the experts.
Most doctors go on to say, that many of people ilnesses are mentally created. Phantom pains, small pains blow out of porportion, and that the mind is a Powerful fliter, that can make anyone feel like they have cancer.
It is expected that you leave the medical decesions to the experts, and then back up and hear what they have to say. That is what you pay them for. There is nothing that makes a doctor groan more than a patient who thinks they know what's wrong with them.
Most of this is true..
But..
I have found in my years that it isn't really that cut and dry. You truly need to know whats going on, and what kind of help to seek. I think it comes down to this. No we can't and shouldn't diagnose ourselves, but you bet we should decide on what specialist to seek out.
I think we drop the ball on letting other doctors decide who and when we need to see a specialist. If I have chest pains I want to see a heart doctor, wether my GP likes it or not. Nothing against them, but I want to be told I am not going to die by someone who knows about hearts.
But I have found some doctors get insulted when you request a second opinion. Or when your like me a third, LOL
