An aura is actually a seizure in and of itself (probably a simple partial seizure) that some people have before they have other types of seizures. It used to not be considered part of the seizure, but researchers have decided that it is the beginning of the seizure in those who have them and progress on to other seizures. For those who have auras, it is a sort of 'warning' that something is about to happen, and gives the person time to get to a safe place/position.

Hi - examples of an aura might be you smell something that isn't really there, you feel nauseous, you hear a sound that isn't there, a feeling of anxiety comes over you, stuff like that. In simple terms, it means there is a "small" seizure starting in the part of the brain that controls whatever part of your body your aura is affecting. For some people, if the electrical activity isn't stopped, then it can spread through the brain and may result in a grand mall or other type of seizure.

Before reading these boards I never heard of auras, I have seizures only while sleeping, and a few times I have had very strange feelings while awake (usally on a long work day) the feeling is almost like a deja vu but its more like my dept perception is outa wack, the room may feel bigger or something like that. I have always been able to shake this feeling off and have never had a seizure following these.

I wonder?

My auros have been a dejau feeling. Followed by so called seizures in the form of laughing hysterically and not being aware of it.
