I am a contact lense wearer and was recently diagnosed with a corneal ulcer. I never never sleep with my contacts on and I wash my hands properly to prevent infection. I started using OPTI FREE REPLENISH right before this happened and I think that was the cause of the Corneal ulcer. I use to use the Walmart brand eye solution and I wanted to try something new and so I tried the OPTI FREE REPLENISH and look what happened!!!! I had to go to the ER and they gave me some antibiotics to put in my eye, the eye ulcer was very very painful, and it left a white spot right on my eye!! Has anyone experienced this?

A lot of people get them, but most of those are habitual contact lens abusers. The Replenish may have had something to with it, but I doubt it. Also, why did you go to an ER? I don't get why people go to ERs for eye problems. Many optometrists and ophthalmogists are on call 24 hours and they'd likely do a better job than an ER.

The ulcers are painful and all the Dr. has ever given me are antibacterial drops. I haven't worn contacts for over 11 years and my ulcers usually develop when a stye appears and rubs over the eye. This is how I developed my corneal scar or white spot. Some even mistake it for a cataract. I just use the drops prescribed and deal. I was diagnosed with blepharitis in 1996 and have tried everything. I am convinced that mine began with sebboric dermatits on my face and spread to my eyes. For me, I believe that it's systemic, bacterial or fungal overproduction or underproduction in our bodies. Stress also makes it worse. It's frustrating and painful, so I completely understand. Just do more research when your eyes feel good and go to the Dr. as soon as you feel that little foreign sensation or grittiness with redness. I hope I helped a little.

Sqautchimo,
I suffered an injury after hours and went to the emergency room. I would have much preferred the opthalmologist to the ER! Unfortunately, since this was the first time I ever injured my eye (or visited the ER) I figured that is what I needed to do. Following the ER doctors orders, I waited 5 days to see the specialist and then the specialist asked me why I didn't come when it happened(?) I said it was after hours and he said there is someone there usually. At one of my follow up appointments I looked to see the doors of the eye clinic (where they have the hours posted) say go to the ER after hours. Their website does too. So at least in this case it would be reasonable for a person to think not to bother with the eye clinic after hours. I tell everyone I know to call them BEFORE you go to the ER even if it is after hours. I wish I would've known...I could say things about the care I received at the ER but I won't.:(

Unfortunately, you're not the only one who has received less than stellar eye care at the ER.

I have been a contact lens wearer for about 14 years. I'm sure I wasn't as careful as I should have been the first 4-5 years. About 2 years ago, I was dx'd with corneal ulcers. I couldn't wear contacts for 3-4 months.
