Help!!
I have been having a drawing or pulling/numb sensation in my right ear for the past 2+ months. Saw an ENT physicians assistant for this problem. He cannot figure it out and has never had anyone complain of these symptoms. It most often happens while I am driving. There is no pain, but the inner ear suddenly feels as though the inside of the ear goes numb (like sticking your finger in your ear-plugging it) and the hearing suddenly decreases. The sensation only lasts for a few seconds and up to a minute in length. It is more annoying than anything else. They say my eardrums look fine and there is no wax buildup. Anyone else ever have these symptoms? Did you get a diagnosis? What are you or have you done for it? Any help is appreciated!! Thanks in advance.

I have this. I also have tinnitus (rumbling sound a also a high pitthed sound), I have it on both sides. It is a really weird feeling. I was told it was TMJ (muscular TMJ) Here is the weird part when I lay down on my back it alleviates it until I sit back up.I went to a maxillary surgeon and he made me a soft mouth splint. He said it is from clenching my teeth for so long. Unfortunately I am asleep so I do not know I am doing it. I still get it every here and there but it did get much better from the day it began.

Hi all.
You should investigate also PET (Patulous Eustachian Tube).
It's a rare and misdiagnosed disease: ENT may not figure out you have PET.
Dr. Poe in Boston and Dr. Kujawski in Geneve are aware of PET and can diagnose that.
Search the board Hearing Disorders for threads about PET.
www.eustachian-tube.net is a good starting point: it's Dr. Kujawski's site.
It is under renewement, but relevant links still work.

drawing, pulling and rumbling are all symptoms of a muscle spasm in the middle ear. the rumbling was so bad for me i had to have the tendons severed, much relief. that is if it bothers you that much.
