Was wondering if anyone on here has went through menopause with fibroids ? Have heard that they shrink when you do.... Was just wondering as I have to make a decision as to whether to have hysterectomy or try waiting for meno to help with symptoms. Have had all the test done, pap smears, biospy, and ultrasound. Dr said it was my call since since all the test came back negative except for the fibroids. Any info would be appreciated...Thanks... Dee

Hi Dee,

I just went through this not to long ago, I'm 49 and am in peri, I still have regular periods. A couple of years ago they discovered fiibroids, one was hanging on a stem on the outside of my uterus. The gyno gave me the option of having them removed or not, I decided not to have them removed because I am symptom free right now, if things change and I get discomfort or I bleed all the time I will have a hysterectomy (?). It's a personal decision, I would like to wait it out and hope they disappear or shrink after I'm done with my periods. Hope this helped.

Hi,

I have three of them - they're not too big, but have caused some heavy periods in the past. Now my periods are very light. I'm 48 and have been in peri a couple of years. I'm don't have pain or cramps, so I'm thinking with the lighter periods, menopause may be getting closer, and the fibroids are shrinking.

It's best do wait it out if you can. A friend had them removed, and a year later had some grow back.
