I was just put on Zonegran for my seizures. I have never heard of this drug before and was wondering of any side effects that anyone has had. The ones I have noticed so far (have been on it since 8-13) are tiredness, shakiness and moodiness. Any input would be helpfull!
Thanks!!!
Thanks!!!

I've been on Zonegran for about a month and a half now. I've been really tired and irritable, which is pretty uncharacteristic for me, but I've only had one seizure since I've been on the Zonegran. I don't like the side effects but I hate seizures so I'll probably stick with it.

my son was on this. It seemed better for him at low doses and had the least impact on learning and memory than any of them, but at high doses things were bad.
Big thing to watch for is drink LOTS of water. THis drug is processed through the kidneys and you can get kidney stones if you do not drink water.
The other biggie is that for some people they will not sweat and get overheated. If you find you are not sweating CALL THE NEURO ASAP.
this medwas in Japan first and used for many years. Came to America about 2 1/2 years ago.
Good luck

Thanks for the replys!!! I couldn't take the mood swings and tiredness anymore so I called my Neuro and he switched me to Neurontin. I haven't been on it very long, but I don't like it so far! I can't hardly keep my eyes open, and when I am awake, I am really dizzy. I guess if it doesn't get better by monday I'll have to call my dr, yet again...This is getting REALLY FRUSTRATING!!! Once again thank you for the replys!!!!

Hi all. I took one {1} Neurontin and it put me in the hosptail, I had a fast heart beat, Light heated, and pain up the right side of my right arm. My doctor told me to never ever take it again, Please read the side effects, it might save your life,Neurontin can be very dangerous. Neurontin has {12} unexplained deaths. Please be very careful ask your doctor if he/her thinks it would be safe for you to take.I have ha friend that is taking neurontin she is always tired she told me that she sleeps a lot and she has alot of headaces, I would tell anyone takeing neutontin to please be careful.

Josephine,
Where did you get this info on Neurontin?? I have been on Neurontin for some time and just had an increase. I feel fine. A little sleepy but that is the same with ALL the meds out there. I just want to know where you got this info on the unexplained deaths due to Neurontin. I would love to read it.
God Bless,

My son is on Zonegran and I agree that in the lower doses it really didn't affect him much, but once he moved to the higher dosage, we saw a lot of mood changes. He is now on both Zonegran and depakote and the Depakote seems to be leveling out what the Zonegran does. We are looking at weaning him off the Zonegran to keep him on depakote only.
Has anyone had any real good experiences with the Depakote in controling in children?

My 10yr old son was recently diagnosed with Epilepsy. He was put on Dilantin and a week later had a seizure again. Dilantin levels were slightly above 20mg. After a few more seizures changed to Zonegran 100mg twice a day. IS this a high amount? Is it normal? Thanks for any help as I am just getting into figuring all this out.
