I had a lower molar pulled on Wednesday. During the procedure one of the roots got left behind and the dentist spent about 50 minutes trying to extract it and in the process messing up my gum so its still very tender swelled up and red, although I'm not in any severe pain, just a dull ache like I've been punched several times in the jaw. As a result of leaving the root behind, the dentist has referred me to a local hospital for an assessment as to whether it needs to be taken out. It's now two days on and I've not heard from the hospital yet. The gum is already beginning to heal up and I can't see or feel the left over root with my tongue. Should I assume that what got left behind won't be an issue as the gum will eventually enclose what is left? As I said earlier, I'm not in any pain, just a dull ache from the constant 50 minute battle by the dentist to get the last bit of the tooth out. I really don't want to go thru' another procedure by an oral surgean splicing open my gum to get the tooth out, unless it is really necessary. Will the remaining bit of tooth simply be absorbed into the jaw?
