My doctor has just put me on Librex for severe IBS-Consitipation, and I mean it is very bad. When I do void, it is tiny snakes, gross, and I am bloated to no end.

I asked about Zelnorm, for a friend has the same problem, but my doctor says this is something you can't take for a long period of time.

I am misrable, bloated, backed up, and Fiber-Sured out. Please help me.

I am sick.................:blob_fire

I have Parkinson's and was having considerable problems voiding. My Gastroenterologist put me on Zelnorm, generic Miralax, glycerin suppositories for Bowel Retraining, and Metamucil capsules. It took about six months of adding one medicine after another, until I finally ended up using all of these daily. I have had normal bowel action now for the last week, for the first time in almost a year.

My understanding of this issue from my gastroenteologist is, and I may be wrong here, that all drugs must undergo rigorous testing before they are considered safe by the FDA. Zelnorm is currently being tested for long term safety but it will take awhile because it is ...long-term. His thoughts are that it is perfectly safe. I have been on it for 6 years and can't say enough about it. I don't think he would have prescibed it for me for this long if he thought there was a safety concern. I don't have to use anything else.

zelnorm, i just read, may have serious long-term consequences. but, if it's the ONLY thing that will work, then go for it.

i want to stick with natural methods, but so far, with little good results...

I tried Zelnorm on the 16th of March and a few days after that. While it did make me poop, it also made me dizzy, which I read the few days later (after I took a 2nd dose) that that was a side effect that you should call your dr. about! It scared me and since I already have low blood pressure, I was really scared that it had dropped on me, since that is a side effect too, or for it to go higher. What was weird was that it actually rose! Could have been the panic attack it put me in. I called the ER and took some Xanax to calm down and decided to never take Zelnorm again. One of the pages I read about it, says that they won't approve it in Europe because it is not safe and has bad side effects. I don't know how long it would take for them to appear, such as breast cancer, and blood pressure issues, and more that I can't recall. Enough to scare me and remind me of why I didn't take pills for this to begin with.

I have been using prune juice for the past few years and it works great. Drink about 12-16 oz.. Up to you. I have to hold my nose to drink it and I chug it as fast as I can! haha.....There is gas and bloating, but it cleans you out and works in about an hour or so for a few hours to get it all out. I do my "cleaning" at night while hubby is at work and daughter in bed. Be sure and drink plenty of water and take some vitamins and veges to replace any lost nutrients. Bananas are good for that and almonds. Also the prune juice has potassium and magnesium, and tons of other good stuff for you. I am recently wondering about my mineral levels because I had only been drinking water to replace my liquids, from the liquid lost during the pooping. Lately my legs have been hurting, so I hope it's just achy legs and not vitamin deficiency.

Anyway, the prune juice will work and naturally. I am currently trying to learn about Miralax. Sounds more natural than the pills.

PS--Fiber One cereal works! Eat about a bowl of it before bed and you will poop. But get on a schedule and keep to it. Don't wait for days to eat it, because you will back up. I didn't do a "clean up" after the weekend (which I do on Sundays with my 16 oz. of prune juice), but only at the Fiber One and yesterday when the pooping did kick in, I had severe cramps, which I hadn't had in years since I started drinking prune juice, actually. In other words....don't skip days! ;) Tomorrow is a prune juice day!

EDIT: I realized soon after this post that me and my daughter had some type of virus or something, perhaps bacterial infection or even salmonella. I don't know for sure, but it was the cause of the severe cramping I was having that few days, that was not IBS, nor was it Fiber One cereal. It's a mystery but even a trip to the ER didn't help me. Better now. Back to my poopin' issues. ;)

Zelnorm has been withdrawn,

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Swiss pharmaceutical maker Novartis AG will stop selling a drug to relieve constipation after it was linked to higher chance of heart attack, stroke and worsening heart chest pain that can become a heart attack, federal health officials said Friday.

Oh man! I knew it messed with me those two times I took it and it scared me and I would not take it again. Now I see my intuition and reading on it was true. Whew...that has happened before with that Celebrex! Careful people!! I am sticking with more fiber and prune juice.
