If the looseness is due to a pocket around the tooth a deep cleaning, root planing or even flap surgery on the gum may help it tighten up. If its due to bone loss or short roots, a bone graft may help. Also the tooth can be splinted to other teeth that are more secure to keep it from wiggling which may help the roots remain stable and extend their longevitiy. Another option if the tooth is not already crowned is to crown it along with a more stable tooth on either side - but this destroys the srtuctures of the other teeth as well so I would leave this as a last resort. Of course if the tooth does have to be removed you can always consider an implant and crown.

I have had both root planing and flap surgery and at the time had 3 root canaled teeth that were crowned - although I am not sure if the crown made a difference or not. Over time the enamel of root canaled teeth does become brittle and subject to fracture or breakage but I had an upper front tooth with an r/c and no crown for more than 20 yrs but loss it to perio disease (regular dentist did not catch it in time) and shortly thereafter went for the perio treatment.

Hello,
About wobbly teeth, I am still having mysterious root pain etc., for months but in my ***** to find the problem, my dentist got me a night guard for my bottom teeth, and you would not believe the difference in my wobbly bottom teeth after the first night. Unbeknownst to me I was a clencher and gr4inder and that is why I have had bone loss all these years on my bottom teeth, no gingivitis or perio disease etc., it was all from clenching. Get yourself a nightguard and see if that makes a difference.
