View Full Version : the anxiety of being tested

I had moluscum (-sp) a few years back. UGH! It's a cureable disease...

And, I guess I was exposed to Hep C because I've got the antibodies in my system.

I hope this isn't rude,(posting on a thread that is about HIV). I have read some of the HIV posts and I too have gone through the anxiety of being tested. It is very nerve wracking, and I was one of those who called almost every day to see when the results would be in. My question though is about molluscum, I have had this for about 5 months  and would like to know how much longer I will have it. How long did you have it? What did you do to get rid of it? Did you give it to anybody else, family? I am so stressed out over this, I have trouble sleeping because its all I think about. I do understand that there are much worse things that I could have contracted and I am thankful for that. I actually don't think I got this sexually even though it started in my pubic area. My boyfriend did not have any of these bumps, that I could see. You seem really informed and empathetic on issues and I would really appreciate any support or info. you have to give. Again, sorry for posting on a non-related thread.:)

I can tell you I have had the test a few times in my life after new partners. I was scared too, everybody is, I would take the test and go crazy while waiting. The peace of mind always felt better than the worrying and wondering. It was also nice to tell partners that I had been tested and came back negative. It is never a bad idea to get tested. IF you are positive you can live a long and healthy life because you were responsible and caught it right away. If it is negative you will have that peace of mind, and you will be sure to use protection next time or not have sex with anybody until you both have been tested and show each other std results. I hope that doesn't sound like preaching just speaking from my experience and scares.

It is a skin virus that is very contagious but not harmful. The bumps can look really nasty when they get bigger. Most of mine are the size of a pin point. It is mostly common in children. Usaually, an adult contracts it sexually, especially if it starts in the genital area. I have been told that it can be spread by towels, furniture, bedding, and close skin contact. So an adult can get it without it being an STD, it would just be considered a skin virus. I was sexually active but my partner did not seem to have this. Oh, and it is so hard to get rid of, but I am thankful that it will go away eventually, I have heard anywhere from 9 months to 4 years.
