View Full Version : Eye Problems

Hello!
I have been having problems with my eyes and I can't figure out what is going on. I am 16 years old first of all.

My problems began about 1 1/2 years ago with eye floaters, which appeared suddenly. They are clear and jelly like and I really do not notice them any longer, unless looking at the sky or bright objects. After that I started obsessing over my eyes and I would notice every little thing wrong with them, I began noticing Entoptic Phenomenon. Then a few weeks or months later my vision started going blurry and I started to see double vision (monocular diplopia) where the "ghost" images were on top of eachother in both eyes. I had been to the optometrist and the ophthalmologist during this time. They both said that my eyes were fine and had no damage, I had almost perfect vision and that if I needed glasses they would be a very small prescription. I got glasses. My eyes were a lot better and I could see fine. I started to forget about the problems in my eyes.
But... lately I have been noticing the double vision and blurriness once again. Each day it seems that my eyes get worse. I have had my glasses for about 1 year. I can see the double vision anytime unless I am looking at something about 1-2 feet away. It's especially noticable with bright lettering on black background or neon lights. My eyes also feel very tired all the time. I have an optometrist appointment next thursday.

So, now that all that's explained I have some questions.
1. I do not have very good nutrition. I eat junk food a lot of the time and I am underweight for my age. Could bad nutrition have anything to do with these problems?
2. About 4 years ago I was in a bike accident. I was not wearing a helmet and the result was a concussion. I had fractured my orbital bone also (I believe that's what it was called). I had no problems for years after the accident. Could this have any effect on my eyes now?
3. In March 2006 I broke my tibia and fibula while skiing. I did not have head trauma. That May is when I started noticing the floaters. Does this have anything to do with my eye problems?
4. And last... I use the computer for many hours almost everyday. I have a feeling this is why my eyes are always tired but could this have anything to do with the blurriness or double vision?

If you read through all of that... Thank you so much! I'm sorry it was so long but I didn't want to leave anything out. Thank you! Please help answer my questions and if you have any idea on what could be going on, please help. =)

Hi Matt:
1. Perhaps, but that's easily remedied. If you don't improve your diet at least take a multi-vitamin.
2. Probably not.
3. Probably not.
4. Could be.

See what the optometrist visit turns up. Perhaps you'll need a stronger prescription.

Well for eye strain and floaters you can try a supplement called bilberry. It works great for my eye strain. You can also try grape seed extract.

Be sure to tell the optometrist about the floaters and your orbital socket injury. It seems they could be related, even though not chronologically.

You're at an age when myopia may develop. Perhaps you just need a stronger prescription.

You mentioned "obsessing." This can be a problem in and of itself.
