I have an infection in my wisdom tooth. The dentist said I need to take antibiotics before they extract it. She gave me amoxicillin 250 mg. I told her I didnt have the money to pay for the prescription so she went in the back and gave me 30 pills in an envelope. She said take this four times a day breakfast, lunch dinner and again at bedtime. Should I be taking them at the same time everyday? She didnt say every four hours or anything like that. I read somewhere that amoxicillin is takin every eight hours. Its to late to call her back and tomorrow is Sunday so she wont be in. I want to start taking the pills right away to get rid of the infection. Does anybody know the correct dosage of amoxicillin and does breakfast lunch dinner and bedtime sound right?? I am so confused and scared!!!!

The idea is to get 1000mg per day allowing for the period for when you are sleeping. So take one when you wake up and the other 3 over the course of the day so that the last one you take is before going to bed at night. Taking it with food is a good way of making sure it won't upset your stomach and the digestion helps the capsule breakdown and the medicine crculate quicker. They are not time released so the exact timing does not really matter - what's more important is that you get the 1000mg every day to fight the infection.

It shouldn't - that's pretty much the standard dosage. You can search the web to read about it - dosage, possible side affects. etc. Most drugs makers post their drugs, purpose or usage, dosage, side-affects, etc. If you find you are not feeling well in a day or 2 of taking it - like a stomach ache or being nauseous just cut it down to 3 pills or 750mg per day.

That's exactly right to take it four times a day. Put four out in a dish and you will remember to take one at each meal and one before bed. If you are concerned call a pharmacist - they know more than the doctors do when it comes to meds. I recently took that same med for a tooth infection and it is very helpful. It should last you a week.

Amoxicillin quite often causes nausea, which is helped if you take the capsules with some food. The nausea may also be caused if your infection is quite advanced, in which case it should start to get better 2-3 days after you start taking the antibiotics.

I had no problems with feeling ill, but I would suggest if you do make sure to eat a little something before you take the pill. I know the directions tell you it will work better if you take it on an empty stomach, but if you have trouble even a slice of toast before will help. I had some stomach problems, but it was from the pain med I had along with it. As soon as I made sure to eat something first all was well.
