It's been almost been 10 weeks since surgery. Still can't get my foot into a sneaker. I am wearing a velcro strap shoe; one size larger and a wide width. I've been going to PT, doing exercises at home with the band they gave me and seemed to be making a little progress. The problem is that if I'm on my feet for any extensive amount of time (like today - for 6 hours), I am in pain. I have been walking and coping with the pain that just never goes away. When I actually try to walk normally, the bending of the great toe; where I had the implant, hurts so much. I just don't understand why this is taking so long. I thought that by now, I would be able to walk without pain. Today, even the base (underneath) of the big toe is aching.

I'd like to hear from you, Mary as to how you are doing since we had surgery at the same time, or anyone else who is passed the 10 week mark.

I have another Dr. visit coming up on the 11th. Will update.

I had my bunionectomy on 10/4/06. My big toe still hurts and my foot is constantly swelling. I can wear a sneaker and a loafer. Underneath my big toe is very sensative. I can hardly rub it. Oh, and it's hard to bend. I do the exercises and I see no difference. I would love to wear some boots to work but I don't see myself wearing boots this winter. It's such a long process. Just relax. I guess you're where you suppose to be in this process.
Good Luck:wave:

Hi Debbie - I changed my screen name in case you are confused. Anyway maybe it makes a difference because your implant is in the big toe. My fusion is in the first metatarsul at the end closest to my ankle. I can't say I have any pain at all. If I overdo I find myself limping again. My big toe still does not move on it's own although last week my dr said the range of motion has improved so just continue to move it back and forth myself as often as I can. I'm finding that my foot itself doesn't seem to be swelling but my ankle still does. It looks great when I get up in the morning but by evening I can make "dents" in it and going down stairs step-over-step bothers it.

I also find the "bunion" area and the big toe itself are still numb. When I have done too much I also still get the "pins and needles" feeling in the foot.

Please let us know what you dr has to say on the 11th. I don't go back now until Feb 1st. I'm so grateful that the northeast has not had any snow yet so I don't have to deal with that while I'm still "unstable".

Feel better soon.

Mary:)
