Does anyone have resources(web or article?, research) for protocol on tone management. I am trying to determine if my doctors have considered everything.
Thanks,Dean
Tone is the muscles firing with no conscious control, for example my biceps are holding my arm across my waist and my finger flexors are constantly on resulting in a clenched fist. What I am looking for is what are all the ways to reduce the muscles firing. I am already on baclofen,a muscle relaxant, and I don't want to go to botox, kinesio taping worked for the bicep, but I would have to tape half my body to get complete benefit.
Are there newer or other drugs out there that may help with this?

i had alot of tone as well, tons of clonus which was really bad. i took the three drugs known to work..valium, dantrium and now baclofen. each worked for awhile. i would say the best thing that helped me was time. i can open/close my hand. i just have a little trouble letting go of things in my hand but not much. i dont get clonus in my hand/arm anymore and only a few times a week in my leg/foot. i used to have it 8-10 times a day.
i dont know how much it helped but i made sure i used my arm. i wore a watch on my affected side, if i was writting or something i lifted my arm to hold the paper still whiloe i wrote with my good arm. i was very consious trying not to neglect my affected side. anyhow with lots of time i am happy with what i got back.
how long post stroke are you?

i am now 6 years post stroke. i have had 7 of them. it is a long long process but dont give up. i am still finding things i can do now that i couldnt do before. the more post stroke you are the slower the progress is but its there..have faith. attitude is a really big thing too. took me 2 years to walk and now i walk with just a single tip cane. i went from wheelchair, to 2 wheeled walker, 4 wheeled walker, 2 quad canes, one quad cane and now a single tip cane. keep at it.
