Hi everyone,
I'm soooo glad I found you guys! I just had my first OB a week before Christmas and boy was it a doozie! Talk about wicked painful. I had 3 kids and actually tore badly with one and that hurt less than this! My doc did prescribe Valtrex, Zovirax, Lidocaine and even vicodin for the pain it was so bad believe it or not (Stupid me thought I had the king of all yeast infections!).
Anyways, I wanted to ask if any you had any problems with itching? I haven't had any lesions for almost two weeks but have major problems with insane itching down there. I thought it was a yeast infection so I've done two doses of monistat per my doc but have had no relief. The itching is starting to spread now too. I just want to be sure I'm just not getting nutty or if this is just part of the healing process.
Oh, I'm not sure which one I have. I was married for 20 years to my high school sweetheart and he divorced me this past may because I had Cancer and he couldn't handle it. Well I hadn't been with anyone but him and lo and behold I break out with this. My bloodwork came back negative too. So my doc thinks that it was laying there dormant and popped out because of the stress and my immune system. Killer huh?! My ex did used to get cold sores on the inside of his mouth all the time so I suspect I have 1.
Anyways, I look foward to getting to know you all.

When I had the first OB, it lasted for about 3 months....really...
At first the sores...well really at first I thought I had a bladder infection for about two weeks...then the sores...then about two weeks later the itching. Like each spot there was a sore turned into a rash later and that lingered a long time! I had lingering symptoms for a long time and then I'd have a little relief and bam...another OB. I don't have any kind of immune problems either. I'd say what you are experiencing isn't out of the ordinary. Cortisone cream or vaginal cream worked a little bit to relieve the itch and pain.

I had what may have been my first OB in December. After the lesion went away, I continued to have itching and burning for another 2 weeks. I can't be positive it was my first OB because it was so mild. I'm taking Valtrex everyday.

Another thing with your first OB....I think you are a lot more sensitive or PARANOID about feeling every little thing going on down there for awhile! It's almost like it is hyper-sensistive for awhile (partly psychological, I am sure).

Krstampr, that is sad him leaving you over cancer and now you have this to contend with. I hope you are/have won the battle with cancer and even though herpes isn't nice, somehow you do end up fitting it someplace into your life's other goings on. I never thought i'd get quite this calm about it (i do have my moments) but compared to the early days i've learnt that it's here to stay.
I know different things work for different people, but the best advice i can give to anybody who isn't on med's is to buy a bottle of tea tree oil and dab it on the sore. It instantly kills itching, burning, stinging and kind of calms/numbs the sore so that you can get on with your daily business without virtually feeling a thing (except maybe when you go to the toilet, but that's to be expected!!) I do it morning and night when i have an o/b and it is immense relief, if only for the itching!!

OH Audrey, thank you for your sweet reply. Your a sweetheart.. Yes, thank you I am in remission now and doing fairly well. I've had a few problems but nothing full blown. They think that's why the Herpe's hit when it did, my immune system was low and stress level was high.. LOL... As for my ex, believe it or not I don't harbour any bad feelings over this. I found that it won't change the outcome and will only make me sicker by holding bad blood. Better to forgive and forget. Life is too short..
Thanks for the tips on the tea tree oil. I'm going to go the health food store and get some of that and lysine tommorow.
I'm so happy to have found you all. I feel like I've found an extended family..
Hugs,
Kat

Hi Krstampr......Yes, finding this board is an immense relief as it's the real deal, whereas a lot of those web sites by the drug companies are very plastic and unrealistic. I'd rather learn from real people who are going through what i'm going through than from some slick multimillion dollar website someone was commissioned to design.
Just one word of advice, if you are looking at boosting your immune system try and stay away from astragalus. It is well known as an excellent immune booster but there is something in it which can cause hair loss even though it is a natural product. I found this out as i am looking into why i'm moulting so much hair. I doubt my hair issue is as a result of taking astragalus as it was moulting too much prior to that, but no need to lose more than is necessary!!

I have lots of itching. I've been told my skin inthat area has changed. I use extra Virgin Olive oil everyday without fail and it helps. I have a lot of trouble with yeast infections and this oil helps to protect my skin. It really helps.
