My daughter had a crown put on 6 months ago and has had nothing put problems with pain. We went back 1 1/2 weeks later and there was puss coming out from under the crown-gave her antibiotics and pain meds and sent her home. In the last week her ear starting hurting, I had to take her to ER and they said her ear was infected at first then they looked in her mouth and it was very swollen back by that crown so, they told me to contact her dentist and he would have to take the crown off and probably do a root canal. I talked with the dentist about it and he says it's because her insurance won't pay for a good enough crown. I find this strange because he has done another (same type of crown) and she hasn't had any problems with it. I personally think that he didn't get all the decay out and he is trying to cover his butt. He was having a bad day when he put the second crown on and did not display himself in a very professional manner. My daughter is now 18 and I will be accompanying her to this visit. I am at my witts end with him. So, tomorrow I am going to make him remove the crown and I will be looking at the tooth myself. My daughter wants the tooth pulled, it is one of her back moulers so she really won't miss it. God help the dentist when I walk into his office tomorrow. Has anyone had any kind of trouble like this? I would appreciate any comments or feed back.

sounds like infection has set in and probably need a root canal.

In that case they take out the nerve, give antibiotics and the tooth can be saved.

I have had the same experience., and sometimes being just one tooth less in the back can lead to chewing problems.

I personally think that he didn't get all the decay out and he is trying to cover his butt.

That is exactly what has happened. It happened to me also and caused me great pain and the eventual loss of the tooth.

I agree, I think he is covering his butt cause he screwed up. I would never see this guy again....find an endodontist to check the health of the root canal and a prosthodontist who specializes in crowns.
