:( Saturday night I woke up about 2am to go the bathroom. I sat up on the bed, put my right foot on the floor, then my left. When I put my left foot down, for some reason it could not support me, like my leg just gave out. It was not asleep.
Anyway, as soon as I stepped on the left foot, my ankle buckled and I immediatley felt excruciating pain at my ankle. I could not even get up for about 5 minutes from the floor. I was uable to walk on my foot. That hurt worse than labor did. I have sprained my ankle before and had never felt pain like that!
Swelling was bad, but no bruising. I've had the foot elevated and iced all weekend. Dr at Er said xrays were normal. I'm still a lot of pain. I'm thinking it is a quite severe sprain, maybe grade III, defineltely II.
Is there anything else I could be doing to help it? I could not go to work today, my job requires constant walking. Too hard on crutches.:(

don't know if this will help, but my daughter steped down and sprained her ankle. It was very painful and very very swollen. took her to the ER. they said just a sprain. didn't seem to get better. she wore ace wraps, took advil, iced, etc. this went on for several months. it would always give out and roll and start to swell. finally took her to an ortho spec. he did a MRI and low and behold she had ripped all the ligments/tendons that were attached to her ankle. she ripped them so hard that there were small pieces of ankle bone floating around. she had the surgery and it has helped. she rolls her ankles quite a bit now, but nothing like the one before surgery. All that time she was complaining about pain and swelling the docs would just say she was being dramatic and it was just a sprain. the ripped tendons and all don't show up on x-ray. if it still bothers you go see a specialist. Docs don't always know everything, especialy from the ER>

i agree! injured ankle in May. MRI was done in august and showed the 2 long tendons that go down your leg and wrap around the ankle into the sole of the foot both have a bad case of tendonitis. nothing broken but i'll tell you this has gone from bad to worse in the past 8 months. had PT for 4 months and then acquired new more painful symptoms. Am getting a second opinion from a foot/ankle specialist tomorrow. my Podiatrists answe is Tarsal tunnel and am scheduled for surgery on firday that i don' think will fly since i had an irregular EKG. so i am sticking going for the second opinion and will take it from there.

Thx for your replies! I saw my family dr today. He took xrays and said there seems to be a crack, but it is hard to say because the xray was dark. I have an appointment on Thursday with Ortho. Went to work today, tried to stay of feet as much as possible. My foot is very swollen now. I can feel my skin, it feels swollen and tight.
I feel like people do not realize how much pain I have been in. It seems they feel its just a normal sprain but sure doesn't feel like it.
Thx again:wave:

UPDATE: I saw Ortho today. I have a grade III sprain. I decided to let them put a cast on and it feels much better. It still hurts but it feels supported and I don't have to use crutches!
