SPF 60?! I've never even hear of that. I thought the highest was 45 or something.
60 sounds kinda extreme to me. I don't know about whether or not that's entirely good for your skin... but I don't do that myself. I put on a moisturizer and makeup, that's it. I don't pay much attention to SPF in moisturizers at this point since the makeup I use has SPF18, and that's good enough for me.

15 spf should be suffient for comming and going, plus it will be less harsh on your skin. But, if you will be outside for half hour or more, then go ahead and use that 60 SPF. Try to avoid long exposure between the hours of 9am - 3pm. That is when the sun does most of it's damage to skin.

I read somewhere that a SPF over 20 or 30 is overkill and really unnecessary. If you think that wearing sunscreen will block out the sun entirely you're greatly mistaken. The sun is too intense to be blocked out completely, but the sunscreen does help filter out the harmful rays.

I gotta agree with that one. 20-30 is reasonable, anything more than that is totally unnecessary... unless you're going to spend all day in sorching sun or something.
The highest I've ever used is 45, and I only did it because of bad experiences in the past from not using any. So I spent like 3 hours laying in the sun (trying to get a hint of color) and absolutely nothing happened.
I know sunscreen is good and all, but 60 is extreme.
A bit of sun isn't such a bad thing.

I apply moisterizer (Jurlique), followed by SPF Sunscreen, followed by Bare Essentuals foundation which has a "built in" SPF 15.

I remember being told once, that there is no such thing as even SPF 50...it's a marketing ploy....so I'd have to say, it isn't doing anything extra for you...other than being harmful to your skin.

I too, don't use extra SPF...my moisturizer as well as make up both have SPF 15 or 18 in them....the only time I use extra or something different, is when I'm at the beach...and then, I use SPF 30.

Also, sunscreens have to be reapplied throughout the day to be truly effective.

mmm, I don't see any problem with using spf 60 . personally I have to use spf 45 or 50 or I burn anyways so then what's the point ....

I have given up even trying sometimes, and my skin is getting very damaged i can see it. I don't understand these studies that show that sunscreen only works up to 20. I burn on spf 20, any brand, ive tried at least 15. just don't get it. You have to glob it on too for it to work too.

I have to start wearing something to block the sun. I live in florida and usually am covered up except for my arms and neck and head. I see major damage and want to block also to keep the skin clear of age spots and freakles.

I dont wear foundation but was wondering even if I did that it would help.

How do you like Bare Minerals? I was thinking about trying that along with a block that has zink oxide in it. I have very sensitive skin also and some blocks irritate my skin.

My face would be a rashy mess if I used all those products on it. I had a battle with the sun last summer. I was on two diff meds that said stay outta the sun and I did. Not easy to do since it was a long and hot one.

I wish there was a natural product that was a sunscreen.

Hi Dapple,
Mineral makeups like BE, Jane Iredale, Everyday Minerals, etc all have 100% natural physical sunblocks of 15 SPF. Please beware Physicans formula doesn't contain enough mineral to have an SPF.

Hey, thanks, eve! One more reason to try the mineral makeup I've been wanting to. It really looks good on everyone and very few people seem to go back to the other kind of foundation.

I find the worst sun is in the car in the late aft if you are heading west. But even some mornings you could get a bad burn commuting east like that if it's hot enuf.

You are very correct. UV rays hit even on cloudy days, right through them. It is possible to do even more damage then because you stay out longer, because you don't have that sun beating down on you.
