My son of 7 months has been suffering from breathing problem. His heart rate during night about 110-122/min. His nose remains block for which he can not sleep. Always rubing his nose in the pillow. It is now winter here. Now for last 9/10 days caugh is developed. Consulted with Doctor. Antibiotic drops prescribed for 4 days (2.50 ml once daily). Also prescribed T-sumic alergetic drop. using 5 drops in 3 times daily.
But there is no development in day 2 after using the medicine. Please give suggestion.

Same exact problem with my son ever since he wwas 3 months old!
He rubbed his nose on the pillow and coughed alot...I started laying a towel over his pillow and it seemed to soothe him...I still put one over his pillow every night.
But the thing that was a life saver was a cool mist vaporizer and saline nasal drops. Every night when he goes to bed he has the vaporizer on, and if hes sounds really stuffy I give him decongestant and use the saline drops. The drops really help because they clear away any stobborn mucous that is stuck in the nose. (helpful before feeding, too) And then of course I have the towel over his pillow... which I think is more soothing than a pillowcase because it absobs any moisture from his nose and keeps it from seeping into the pillow so it doesnt stay damp and uncomfortable. Hope these little tips help you!

A cool mist vaporizer...it is a machine which you put water into, and vaporizes the water and sends it into the air. You will use it in the room that he sleeps in. It really is helpful...You can buy them at CVS, KMART, WALMART, or any other store like these.
The cool mist vaporizer is similar to a humidifier, so when you buy it dont get them confused. Humidifiers use heat to steam the water and you dont want that.
Good luck and let me know how it goes! If you need more of an explination about the vaporizer let me know.

Thanks for providing details. It is not clear how after puting water into the machine vaporize the water and what is the sending procedure into air where sleeps. Is it through spraying - please give highlight about it.You also mentioined that when your son sounds really stuffy you gives him decongestant - what is decongestant and how it applied pl explain

You may want to consult an ENT (Ears, Nose & Throat) doctor if this condition does not clear up after cold season. My daughter, now 11y. was similar to this. After a continued bout with strep when she was 5, we consulted an ENT for her tonsils. They also removed her adnoids and we discovered during the surgery that she had 95% blockage from them. The doctor came right out after surgery and told us "They were HUGE, her nose was just an accessory part."
From what I recall, and you may want to ask your doctor this because I am not 100% certain, an additional reason to have your adnoids out is this interuption in breathing while sleeping can lead to sleep apnea. This also will lead to heart problems if not addressed. That's what I remember them telling me before they removed them.
I never realized that for the last 5 years my daughter could not "truly" smell until we drove past a Burger King and she said to me "What smells so good?" meanwhile we had driven past it for the last year on the way to school and she had NEVER smelled it.
Hope this helps.
