i have grand mal seizures and i never know that i have had one until about 7-8 hours afterwards and i fully wake up after a lonnnng nap and i realize my tougne is all bit up but from what i have been told after i get done convulsing and start coming out of my seizure i am very violent and i really dont like that because i have 3 small children i had a seizure at my moms house while getting somethings out of a back seat of a car i was outside by myself my mom came out and found me unconsious called 911 the ambulance came and by the time they got there i was awake but still unaware of what was going on (this was only the second seizure i had had) the paramedics tried getting me out of the car because i was still laying on the floorboard of the back seat and from what i have been told and i seen afterwards the paramedics really took a beating from me it was almost like i had some super strenght at that time or something im a fairly small girl and i dont like to fight i dont even like to argue but 3 of the paramedics had black eyes and one of them had a broken hand .i dont know why i did it and it really bugs me i had charges pressed against me but they were dropped once they figured out what had happened thank god i still to this day feel bad for that.another time i had a seizure was a couple weeks after i gave birth to my second child and an abulance was called that time too i gues i fought with them too but not near as bad i refused to go with them but my husband some how managed to talk me into going with them because i was hurt.but i come out of the seizure very aggressive.

I would get complex partials and grand mals. I always sleep after a seizure. But it bugs me after I have had a seizure and I try to get up and people are around me trying to make me sit down or stay still.

When I come to after having a seizure, I am very incoherrent and don't know what happened. What I am told though is that I get very insisting that I am okay and that nothing happened. After that I get really really really cold, and sleep for about 2 or 3 hours..

Hey Turtle,
Hadn't thought about the little guy being cold after. Thanks for sharing. Dh and I go back and forth, I cover him up and he uncovers him... I'll have to let Daddy know what you said. Thanks for sharing.

After a seizure I feel and act drunk. I just want to laugh and talk. Then it hits me about 15 min later that I just had a seizure. I ask what I did and after the story all I can think about is sleep. I don't care where I am, I will just curl up and sleep. I guess I have it lucky that I don't have achs and pains like after a gran mal. I will count my blessings. I just have the best of two evils I guess!?

Mommajess,
Do you ever worry about things like DHS/DCFS/CPS (depending on your state) stepping in because of your seizures? I know I have worried about this in the past and now that my husband and I are getting a divorce, I worry about child custody. Fortunately, my seizures aren't violent, my dd is old enough to handle them and my STB-XH has been a very poor father. I don't worry too hard.

firstly I know when I'm going to have one because I go all dizzy and then my kneck twitches to the side, its a horrible feeling knowing your going to pass out and fit.I always wake up and have a load of people around me worrying what happened and asking me questions which at the time I can't answer as I have the most horriblest headache, cuts (when I fall down and hit summit),bitten tongue and I can get confused to where I am.It's stressful sometimes waking up to people all over me and worrying but in a way I think I'd be worried if some one I knew passed out fitting, seeing their eyes rolling to the back of your head and thinking their going to die (Well thats what my friends and family say about me)but as long as I don't forget to take my med and not get to Stressed over things I will be fine.

I have both complex partial and absence (petit mal) seizures. Often during a cp sz. I wander around and when I come out of the sz. I'm very confused and it takes me a moment to realize where I'm at. With absence sz. I am out of it for a few seconds but I will continue doing whatever I'm in the middle of doing like cooking dinner, talking to someone, etc.
I'm really sleepy after the sz. and confused. I used to sleep for 2-3 hrs. after I had a sz. but then I would wake up with a wicked migraine headache so now I stay awake and within an hour or 2 the sleepiness goes away and I feel much better than when I would lay down and rest for awhile.
I have a cousin who had grand mal sz. and he went on the ketogenic diet and he never had a single sz. again until he went off the diet. If you're interested maybe you should give the diet a try to see if it will stop your sz. also.
Here's wishing you only the best of luck and May God Bless You!

I get dizzy a lot, but every once in awhile I will pass out and shake alot, not like a full blown seizure, but it's obvious that I'm shaking and when I come to only seconds later, I am confused, like I don't know what has happened, and then sometimes, I just start crying like an instant reaction for no reason. I have done this for as long as I can remember and I have never had a diagnosis. Some doctors say it could be slight epilepsy, or vasovagal syncopy, or hypoglacemia. Does anyone have any advice on why this happens to me?

I sleep very deeply for several hours. I'm told my arms and hands are extrememly cold, although I don't really remember feeling cold. My speech is slurred, and my gait is very unsteady, and I get BAD urinary urgency (or worse). I'm usually exhausted for a day or so, and have a headache. I've been told I'm confused and not easy to reason with, but will usually end up doing what someone else tells me to as long as they approach me as if it was my idea.... go figure. I'm also told that I'm very irritable BEFORE it hits, and get grouchy for no good reason.

I am paralyzed following my seizures (Todd's paralysis.) I am semi-conscious...just can't move from the neck down until it passes. It usually takes a half hour or so. It's pretty scary though, because my Doc told me that the paralysis could last for weeks! So far it hasn't gone longer than the half hour....THANK GOD! Be well all, Kathy

Hi Garry,
It (Todd's paralysis)IS scary! At first, before I knew it was Todd's, I totally freaked out! It followed my first Partial seizure. Prior to that time I had always had grand mals. Now I know that the paralysis will go away and that I'm not having strokes. The problem with my seizures now is that my diaphram seizes too, which makes breathing real difficult. THAT is the scariest thing for me. Hope all is well with you. Kathy

After a tonic clonic I am told that I am very groggy and confused. My hubby says that I always complain of a bad headache and am teary eyed. I usually sleep for several hours afterwards and am very tired for a couple days.

What happens after my seizures? Well, the last few have ranged from a petit mal, during a meeting I had with some coworkers (when two of them told me how I 'phased out' of responding to the speaker's question for about 30 seconds or so), to what appeared to be two full-blown gran mals. How did I know? I woke up groggy from one, with a toolbox of mine bent in, severe bites on my tongue (with pain lasting there for about three+ days- OUCH!), bruises on the back of my leg. The second gran mal I found myself on the bathroom floor with a severe cut on my cheek, requiring seven stitches. after I wake up the level of orientation seems to be a LITTLE better each time, at least enough to tend to the injuries at hand!

After a GM I vomit for as long as I can , then I dry retch for hours, sometimes, I start bustin blood vessels and vomit blood. While this is going on I moan and cry and go 'Mommy, mommy' like a little kid, which is how I feel. Just thinking about it almost makes me cry. I feel so desolate just then. That's when I really appreciate having someone there to hold my hand. Usually, i have a few other problems to deal with as well: fractures, bitten tongue, lacerations and bruises, bitten lips, wet pants, muscle tears, one time I had a perigastric hernia, and so on. Oh, yeah, and I don't know who I am,what's goling on, and and so on. I feel so bloody embarassed, stupid and useless. Then I HAVE TO sleep for a while, usually for an initial 4 hours or so, followed by a short wake up followed by a VERY LONG sleep.
God bless

Peter,
When you say, "bruising" where do you mean?? I had 2 gran mals and when I awoke I had bruises on the back side of my calfs. I was lying in a hospital bed and don't know how I got them. Do you think you might??
God Bless you dear,

Hello
I am not a regular to “E” I have had one Grand Mall due to Low Blood Sugar from Diabetes. Since someone mentioned violent acts, I wanted to let you know what my experience was. I knew nothing of what was going on but I was told I had been throwing 2 Paramedics, 2 Sheriff Deputies and 2 Fire Fighters all around my living room. I was on the couch laying down and they were all laying and sitting on top of me to get a glucose shot into one of my veins.; I did hear one ask if they should get a couple more deputies over to my house to help hold me down. The glucose was helping bring me around. I still faded in and out. I was told one of them asked if I needed to be handcuffed or if they should use their baton on me to get me under control. Afterwards, I still knew nothing. I was taken to the hospital. I personally never saw the doctor that looked at me. I was out of it for quite some time. My first words were “where am I’ a close friend of mine was laughing at me and said “they really do say that” I was never told I had a seizure. I did not even know I had one for many years until my present wife who has E told me that I was in a grand mal seizure with my son backing up the story. He saw the whole thing. My X yelled at me when I got home and demanded that I never do that again to her. I curiously looked at her and asked what I did. I can understand a little bit. What an unusual experience. This was my only seizure I have had.

Ok, since everyone has experienced many different post seizure reactions, I thought I would post a funny one. Are you ready for this one? First of all, I have GM seizures that are usually in my sleep. The last one I experienced was about 2 months ago. My husband is always the one who takes care of me. I don't remember anything that happens afterwards so I usually ask hubby about the things I said and did. I am usually out of it for a few hours. Well, after the last one and when my husband thought I was back to "normal", I guess I stripped off all of my clothes as was trying to "jump" his bones. Then I guess I started arguing with him that I wanted to go outside, of course I was still naked at this time. Hubby had to pick me up and carry me over his shoulder back to the bedroom and put my clothes back on me. Although I Still insisted that I had to go outside naked. Fortunately, hubby wouldn't allow me to go out in the middle of the night naked. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif

as i come out of a seizure i become 'combative'.
by this i mean, if someone is over me as i wake up i will take a swing at them, sometimes 2 or 3 times and they are quick punches and then be out.
the first one that i had at work (i have been lucky and they usually happen at home) and just as i was coming around, one of the guys asking my wife what to do. All i heard was 'Get back he is combative when he wakes!' everyone jumped back and i JUST missed smacking the V.P. of marketing. and then i fell asleep for 5-10 minutes.
all i want to do is sleep and if at all possible have someone there talking to me or touching me. it helps keep me grounded and have something to concentrate on other than the nausea and pain. there is just something soothing and reasuring to have someone there.
