Hi everyone. Well I just got hired for a new job this morning, I'm staring Monday and I'm having a bit of anxiety about it. I'm wondering how good I'll be as I'm not the same as when I was in my twenties and thirties. I don't see as well, I'm more forgetful and I just can't seem to remember names..ugh. I'm going to be working in an office doing bookkeeping and stuff. I've owned my own business for the past 15 years and it closed down last month, I got left with a load of bills and I need to work, so, here I go. Just needed to vent.

hi mary. your new job could be the start of some thing really good, don't they say we need to exercise our brains to keep them in good working order? i don't work because of some health problems a few years ago, but sometimes i would really relish a bit of a challenge, and working with younger people keeps us young too, keeps us in touch with what's going on.
it's a shame about your business and the bills mounting up, but hey, you can do this! hope it works out for you.

Thank you for the kind words Sue. I guess it's just insecurity. I'm going to try and stay positive. It's a challenge for sure but I have no choice.
Take care,
Mary

Hi Mandarra,
I'm new to the forum, hope you're coping in your new job.
I've had to take a break from work, just haven't been coping at work.
Best of luck!

Hi Mandarra:
You will be fine, I promise! I started having pretty severe symptoms about 2 years ago when I was already in a job. I got things under control after a couple of months and then ended up moving because of my husband's job a few months after that. It took me about 6 months to find another job and I was really worried about being so forgetful, etc. and worried I wouldn't be able to remember stuff. I made such extensive notes and files on everything I learned, it helped a lot. At the same time as I was in my new job (which was about 3/4 time) I was studying to take the real estate exam. Some days my head just hurt between learning new job information and studying real estate. I just plodded away and tried not to beat myself up when I did make a mistake at work (they were never big, just like typo's and that sort of thing). I finally decided to quit my that job and go into real estate - at 48! So I still am a bit worried, will I be able to handle the long hours and hard work?
Don't be hard on yourself. Remember it takes a while to feel comfortable in a job no matter what your age. Your maturity and previous business experience will more than make up for forgetting someone's name!

Hi Mary,
Hope you're doing ok in the new job.
I've had to take some time out from work at the moment, as I just wasn't coping, due to the menopause.
Hopefully I'll get back to work when I'm feeling better!
Best of luck, I understand it's not easy for any of us here.
Take care,
