It's been a scary few weeks and I'm curious if anybody has had a similar experience. A few months back I had a bad pap followed by a colp that showed Adenocarcinoma in situ. At that time my Dr. let me know that my only option was to have a Cold Knife Cone biopsy to remove the bad cells. She warned me at that time that due to the impact on the cervix that I may need a cerclage for future pregnancies. She said that she had done the biopsy before on people that went on to have normal pregnancies without the cerclage, but depending on how large of a biopsy she had to take I may need a cerclage in the future. I had the cold knife cone on 12/21 and a week later I was called and told that the margins were negative. I was really excited and hoped to try to get pregnant in the next few months. Then I went in for my post-op appointment and was given bad news. The ob/gyn said that because of the shape of my cervix she had to take a rather large portion out when she did the biopsy and she doubts that there is enough of my cervix left now to even do the cerclage. I was devastated to hear that since I was never warned that this could happen. I felt totally blindsided by the fact that she never mentioned that the procedure could ruin all hopes for a future pregnancy. My husband and I have no children and before this whole mess we planned on trying to start a family early this year. I am scheduled to see a High Risk OB in 2 months, but the waiting is torture. I'm curious if any of you have had a similar experience, with little of your cervix left and gone on to have the cerclage. Or for those of you that have had a trachelectomy, what was the procedure that enabled you to carry past the first trimester of a pregnancy? Or is there any other option than a cerclage? Has anybody had an experience with a Cerclage Pessary? I really appreciate any information that you can provide. Thanks to all of you, this message board has been so much help during this ordeal.
