I received my first denial letter in the mail today so I am now ready to find an attorney. I know that I need to be sure that this is an attorney that specializes in SSDI but it seems that there are many of them!
How do I choose?
What do I look for?
Is there a way to find attorney's success rates?

Sorry to hear you were denied but that happens to most of us the first time like me.What state do you live in?Personally I called hot line for referrals in the yellow pages and also on line punched in S.S. in your area.My attorney I found is wonderful I won my case 2 time around.I came right out and asked him how many cases he's had and how many he won.
Good Luck,Mary

I'm in Illinois.
You're saying that you won in the reconsideration before it went to a judge?

I'm in Wisconsin. My court date was October 11 2006 at 9:30 a.m. my attorney asked me if I would post date the day I filled for S.S its a close case so of course I said YES.
Sat in the judges chamber asked if I agreed with the day I said yes and left the room.I should be getting my back pay by Feb. this year.I did receive the letter from the ALJ stated FULLY FAVORABLE I was so excited but now its the waiting game for the money.

How far did you have to post date it? I don't understand what being a close case has to do with changing the date?
Did you have your attorney for the reconsideration or did you wait to get him after the 2nd denial?

Hi Gina,
I was denied once and got my attorney after that. Here's what happened to me,I filed for S.S. in May 2004 turned in my application by myself then about 2 months later had a conversation with someone from S.S. about my app.short time after that received a letter stating I was denied. Then in October 2004 found my attorney he filed with S.S. and they said a 16 month waiting period.Waited for months ETC.........and finally heard my hearing was in October 2006.
You know as far as moving the date from May 2004 to Feb.2005 I think it has alot to do with back pay.But as far as I looked at that was I'll receive S.S. every month after that and of course I'm ok with that as I'm sure anyone else would be.Then in August I'll receive Medicare with S.S.
I'm just want to get my bills in order and hopefully get rid of some of this stress every month.
If I can help any other way let me know.Where are you from again?I'm in Wisconsin. What complications or Dx's do you have?
Take Care Mary
