View Full Version : Hypnotherapy...

Hello to everyone,

In a few a months I'm going to start my second semester of my master's program, and my first semester of being a T.A.!!!

The main reason for this is because of the money (the pay is pretty good) and I want to face my anxiety head on, but now that the day is coming closer and closer I'm starting to get really nervous.

Overall I am a pretty stable person... Well, except I've kind of self-diagnosed myself with ADD but I've never went as far as getting a real diagnosis or a prescription for it.

As for my problem, public speaking, I've never been great at it but I've never had a big problem with it either. This was until around a good 4-5 years ago. Nowadays, the anticipation alone leaves my heart racing, my palms sweaty, and my voice shaky. I know I cannot come off this way in front of my students! Many of whom will be my peers.

Honestly, I'm scared to death of pills or the thought of becoming dependent on them so I was wondering if any of you had personal experiences with hypnotherapy that you could share. I only ask because I've been hypnotized before (for fun at one of those high school events) and my mind seems pretty willing to let go of control. It seems feasible to me that reaching my subconscious mind can help me with my anxiety problems.

Anyways, any further information whether it be personal stories, standard procedures, prices, etc. would provide a great deal of help for me. Thanks for any future replies.

hi i have tried hypnotherapy for my anxiety and panic and also to get over my fear of electricity/electrocution after an accident i had. it helped greatly with the electrocution issue but did nothing to help my anxiety as i found trying to relax enough to be hypnotised very difficult.i would say try it for a couple of times but if you feel no different then stop.hope this helps.

over a period of a few months and it didn't do anything for my insomnia/anxiety. I wanted to try it since I didn't want to start meds.{REMOVED}I finally did go on meds with some trepidation but it's been fine. That being said, I gave hypnotherapy a good try. I was able to get into a very relaxed state but couldn't seem to make it work for me outside of the therapeutic situation. My psychiatrist actually was the one who recommended this therapist for hypnosis as she had consulted him for test taking anxiety herself. It worked for her. I think for what you need, it would be worth a shot. I think for overall GAD or insomnia, it's hit or miss. GL!
