IBS is a pretty generic term that doctors use. It's code for "there's something wrong with your digestive system, but we don't know what it is or how to fix it". :dizzy:

From your description, it sounds like you're suffering from constipation. Without the full picture, I can offer a few tips: If you drink lots of milk, try cutting back and replace it with water. Drink lots and lots of water every day. Avoid sugars for a few days. Make sure to get at least six servings of fruit and veggies. If none of that is working after a week, you might need to see a doctor.

Hi rljslh. I can't speak for IBS with predominant diarrhea but from my own experience I can speak for IBS with predominant constipation. I would agree too...try drinking more water, exercise and increase your daily fiber. In spite of doing ALL those things I suffered with it for over 20 years. Not being able to go to the bathroom is very uncomfortable and, at times, painful. Everyone is different so there really is no normal as far as the number of BM's a person should have per day or per week. You will have to be the judge of how often you should go. If you start feeling bloated or nauseous I would say these are signs thgat you may be constipated. Also, if you have hemrrhoids they may became painful and/or itch if you are constipated. My advice to you is don't put off seeing a doctor like I did. My gastroenterologist explained it to me like this. People that have IBS with constipation have a condition whereby the nerve fibers in the interstines don't communicate with each other and the brain properly. The drug zelnorm somehow facilitates this communication so the nerve fibers work properly and the interstines contract and move waste through like they were meant to.
