I wake up about once or twice a month with horrible excruiating frontal migraines. The ONLY thing that has ever worked for me is Excedrin for Migraines. Knocks mine within 15 minutes.

That actually makes sense for a lot of people because when I had migraines the doctor put me on caffergot which is straight caffeine. I wasn't big on taking any meds so I tried drinking coffee in the morning which I had never done and have only had two migraines in the past 20 years... both went away withing 20 minutes of having a coffee. Not everyone's migraines are triggered or helped by the same thing but caffeine is supposed to be a common one. The biggest problem with it is... caffeine is another thing that produces anxiety.

Hi, I have had migraines since I was very young. I take Zomig right now it works great. It gave me my life back. I've tried Imitrex, Midrin, Elavil as well as all the OTC ones. Zomig does the trick. :)

Yes, I'm 57 and have had migraines since I was 21. I get them about once a month to one every 3 months, somewhere in that frequency. For the past 2 years, I've been getting them about once per month. The call of triptan drugs helps me a lot. These are imitrex, zomig, relpax, etc. The self-injectable imitrex worked the best for me, but I'm too chicken to give myself the shot any more because the pills work pretty well. Now I'm able to function after the headache starts - I used to be incapacitated. I get the classsic ones with the visual disturbance at the start for about a half hour. I hate these things. In the past I treid cafergot, inderal and elavil and the only things that have really worked for me are the triptans. I also, avoid a lot of foods (red wine, nuts, chocolate, onions, msg, sodium nitrite, etc.) but am not quite sure if there is a correlation. I've also taken to avoiding aspartame (diet coke) and also don't drink regular coke any more becuase of all the sugar. I think there may be a correlation to viagra also which I had to start using in low doses a few years ago so have recently switched to levitra. The final concern I have is whether there is a correlation to PFO - patent foramen ovale - look it up. I have no reason to think I have a pfo, but there is a suspected migraine correlation.

So - there's a bunch of things to check into re migraine headaches!

Yea, I've had since I was 6 and I'm now 26. I know what to avoid foodwise. I have done the whole route with triptans-zomig, imitrex injections-both give me heart palpitations and thats the last thing I need. Also when I was much younger tried some mint flavored pill that had to dissolve under your tongue-I think its called ergamil or something like that. I had a migraine last night and needed to take the aleve and did ok with it, so I think for now I may just stick with that.
