I am so happy you have come to join us on this terrific board. Everyone here is so helpful and will take the time out of their busy lives to help out a fellow person with "E". Even if you are not sure what you have and just have questions about symptoms, we are here to tell you what has happened to us. We are not doctors but we sure do have a ton of experience with it first hand.
We have people on here who don't have "E" but a family member does and they just want to know more about it so they can better relate to their family member.
Anyway, I hope you will stay. The more, the merrier!!! We all are here to help you and are sure that once you give us a chance, you will stay. Post often, we would love to learn more about you.
God Bless you all,
KittyMom

Thanks for the warm welcome Kittymom. I stumbled up on the board by pure accident and I am very glad I did. YOu don't realise how many lives E can touch until you see it here at a place like this board.....bit of an eye opener really.
As Kitty said, doctors can help you treat it but they can't tell you how to live with it, that comes mainly from experiance and shared experiances.

DavidTex,
Thank you for your sweet reply. I look forward to seeing more of you on the board. I am sorry that I can't answer or help you with much due to the fact that you have a child with "E" and I don't know how many miligrams of meds are better than others. I do know that it is slightly different with kids than adults. I do know what the little one feels after but that is about it. Sorry!! http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/confused.gif
TO ALL,
Again, welcome to all the new people. I can't keep up!! I will try. I have been away alot due to company and getting my boss in a whole heap of hot water for all his nasty deeds...(long story) But now things are calming down and I will be on much more. Please post often as you will find this is one heck of a place in every aspect.
Good luck and God Bless you all,
KittyMom

Thanks for the welcome. I'm new to this site--I'm brside myself. My daughter's JME was controlled for 4 years on Lamictal, then she started having seizures again. Along with the seizures, she now suffers from insomnia--every time the MD tries a new medication, she suffers a seizure and she's petrified. By the way, she's 19. The md just decided to try Keppra along with the Lamictal. She's willing, I'm petrified. Any words of wisdom?

I understand your fear. I would be scared too but you have to stay positive for her and you!!! This could be the one that works best for her. The right combo. Who knows!? The seizures to stink. I suffer from gran mals, partial complex, simple partials, and I am looking into petite mals. (That would explain some things.) I know they are horrid and I know that being on the other side of one and not being able to help is bad too if not just as hard. I say try it. This could be the one combo that does it for her. If not, you have ruled out another now on to the next.
Stay positive and you and your daughter are in my prayers.
God Bless Sweetie,
KittyMom
P.S. I just moved to AZ from NJ. I lived in Eatontown near Long Branch...Do you know where that is?

Still keeping it at the top! Hope everyone new reads it!
Thanks again for the warmest of welcomes. Ya'll have given me more than a whole bunch of great new info I probably wouldn't have found otherwise, but you've also given me great support, and I appreciate it more than I can say. For the longest time, it seemed like my E was basically the end all to any kind of life I might have. But this site has really helped me and has unbelieveably brightned my days. Sorry for writing such a "book" just wanted to say thanks,
Tweety

Hello everyone,
I am a teacher aid in Saskatchewan, Canada and have just started working in a grade 2 class. I am looking for some more info. on peti-mals. The one child in my class seems to "zone" out very often I know a bit about this from my schooling but am unclear of a few things so I was hoping that you could help me out. First of all do you have to have Epilepsy to have them? How does on go about testing? What other sings and syptoms should I be looking for? Any thing you can tell me would be helpful as the teachers in my school think it's just becouse she is one of the younger kids and is to imature yet. I think that there is more to it then that.I hope that I'm wrong but I'd rather find out know then when she has droped out of school because of this. Thank you in advance

Untill next time, Kim.

Thank you for reposting this thread, Kitty. I'm new as of this evening. I have had CP seizures since I was 5 (was given depakine the entire time), and they dissapeared at 12 y/o, only to return at 16 when I started my period. I was put on Neurontin for the depersonalization, derealization, anxiety and severe panic attacks ("Gotta get outta here now!" type feeling), and I've been taking Neurontin since then. I'm 25 now, and had my only child at 22 when I was only on 900-1,200 mgs of Neurontin throughout my pregnancy (I consider it even more of a blessing now given the current medications I'm on).
After her birth, my Generalized Anxiety Disorder was terrible! Klonopin was the answer, at 1mg x2. Now, and I'm not sure why, I take 2mgs daily (Perscrip error?!?). It works and would work better if I didnt smoke.
At any rate, I felt normal again. But before, during and since that time, after my pregnancy, I was self medicating and increasing my Neurontin myself because I felt a difference. At this point, almost 3 years later, I take 4,800 mgs of Neurontin a day (exercise gets me through the day)!!!
I was started on Lamictal to help me taper off the Neurontin to decrease unwanted side effects 10 months ago (at 150 mgs x2), but it hasnt worked, I still get seizures at every attempt at decreasing the Neurontin. Now, I'm on THREE meds, all used as an AED's, and I want to have another child. What to do!!!
So, thats my situation. I have a plan, and I read about the increase in seizures during menses, and felt a relief that I am not alone. My husband wasnt buying it when I suggested my theory a year ago (and I did not have any increased feeling of auras or seizure type feelings before my preg during my cycles.)
I'm glad to be on the board now. As I enjoy reading everyones old, and your future updates, I will share mine as well. Sorry for such a long reply, but I'm a newbie. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif
God Bless you all!
